You shifted your claim to there was no surprise features at launch to there was no major changes. Well of course there wasnt and I dont believe anyone expected any. The Quad is still built on the Gen2 platform. I thought that it was pretty well understood by everyone that the only real change between a Dual/Tri/Quad is performance, with a handful of small gimmicky features. This isnt any different than the Gen 1 dual/quads.
Between here and the subreddit there is one common theme among the trash-talkers: they didn't read the full release.

Yes, but this is also a 2026 model, not a 2025, so something new (like better sound system or an actual locking glove box or center console) would have been nice, as it shows they are working on fixing issues they have. Again, that is a minor point. I'm mostly surprised that those who have had $3k reservations for a year had no benefit for that reservation and the launch edition shouldn't have limited color choice.

I have read all of this new quad motor release information with great interest. The price increase is significant. At $50,000 above the original quad motor release, it doesn't seem to provide sufficient value. At these prices, Rivian has become a niche vehicle.

I just hope that Rivian can survive until the release of the R2.

That's my big take away as well.

I understand halo products struggle to present value - they are more visceral in nature. This has the price tag to qualify it as a halo car, but it's missing the thing that causes the emotional 'I need it' response.

I think that's because I expected more. Much more.

Essentially, they just chucked another motor in the tri-motor and called it a day. It gets thumped by the Gravity. The Plaid. Even certain versions of the Air. at the one thing it should give you more in. I guess if you want more at something, go with other versions?

At $120k+, it's more sizzle than steak. More hat than cattle. It's going to make some people happy, but it also falls short.

Shame...

I think "thumped" is a little harsh here. It's down by 1/2 a car at 130mph, that is reached in a quarter mile and 10-1/2 seconds.

Features a new electrical architecture, reducing 44 pounds of wiring, and an updated infotainment system with GoogleCast and Apple Music support.
Is this a Gen2 to Gen1 comparison, or did they eliminate more wiring in the Quad? If so, I wonder if it is related to the NACS switch. Maybe all 2026 models will have NACS and 44 lbs less wiring? I am super excited about 44 lbs less wiring. Super.

So in your mind, Kick Turn, NACS, Rad Tuner are minor gimmick changes... but a lockable glove box (which doesnt even exist) would have really made the difference for you? (FYI Rivian announced early this year they are working on PIN to drive support this fall. PIN to center console will likely follow. But these are not Quad specific changes.)

I hate to agree with you guys because I love my R1T and Rivian service has been amazing in my experience.

But, add no FSD and it's hard to justify this increased price tag. As much as I hate the looks of the cybertruck (and Tesla service), I have to say it's a better deal at these prices.

I am not sure if the R2 will be a good contender either without something close to FSD, i.e., able to drive you from point A to point B.

Having used FSD, I am unable to justify buying any EV without the tech.

Keep in mind, the Dream line isnt even Lucids highest performance trim and is closer to the Tri Motor line. They havent announced it, but most speculate a Gravity Sapphire will be coming 1-2 years after release, just like the Air. It will be an absolute monster. The Air Sapphire does 1/4mi in 8.9s and the Gravity is only 700lbs heavier.

Also the video does say Rivian Quad started to scale back power as it got close to the 130mph limit. Acceleration was at 0 when it crossed the line, while Gravity was still pulling. Quad easily would have beat the Gravity if it wasnt software limited.

All models show NACS standard on their website as of today.

The timing of the NACS port is interesting. It does not add any additional Supercharger locations over what we currently have access to.

Most non-Tesla networks have not started putting the NACS cables on their networks so essentially it just shifts where you need the adapters.

Was also surprised they did not move the port location to passenger front where it originally was in the early test mules when adding native NACS to better accommodate most of the Supercharger locations.

The Gravity is a smaller vehicle with roughly the same horsepower and torque. It’s supposed to win.

Also - there really isn’t a real world use case for drag racing a 3-row off-road SUV vs a high speed minivan. Pretty pointless.
The Gravity has smaller exterior dimensions, but more interior space. It's also a 3 row electric vehicle. It's absolutely a fair comparison. These two vehicles will be cross-shopped.

Over-exaggeration and clearly didn't watch the full video and listen to Cammisa's observations. The Quad's launch mode lowered its front height, to minimize lift, in order to maintain traction at the front. But, it's got so much torque the front lifted and spun tires anyway. And, the 130 mph software limiter started pulling back power towards the finish line as speed approached 130. If Rivian revised software to address these two things, the R1S would have bested the Gravity.

And the Gravity did not "thump" the R1S. Both ran the distance in 10.5s. R1S had better launch and perhaps reaction time as well. The Gravity pulled ahead down the strip because the R1S limiter pulled back power. If anything, the R1S is more impressive because it's got about 1k lbs more on the Gravity.
