The part I was missing was off-road mode. I saw the software tab, but it says it only allows updates when the car is off, and doesn't allow me to check for updates.
Yeah, either that or take it in the house and plug it in connected to wifi. If you catch it when you get in the vehicle before stepping on the brake you can still adjust things like that.

Yeah, just seems like a hack to add a poor man’s Gen 2 capabilities to Gen 1. If one is happy with that, cool. I’m not convinced, however
The head of Rivian service at MSP drove my gen1 r1s 1.5 hours to deliver it back to me. It has a comma 3x running a stable version of sunnypilot, not to far from stock open pilot, without the extra harness (it is handling lateral control, Rivian is doing longitudinal control, and MADS is enabled). I briefly told him how to use the system before he drove it so he didn't crash my car.

When he arrived, his first words were "wow, the comma 3x is way better then Gen2 right now. It's game changer. I can see why you installed it." He said it's way smoother in the way it handles everything than current gen 2 capabilities. He was literally blown away.

What build and driving model are you running?

None. They knew about it at the service center but it was the first one they had seen. They all seemed intrigued/interested, asked a lot of questions about it.

sunnypilot/mads-tesla-prebuilt
Just FYI, the mads-tesla stuff has been merged into SP master so you can use a prebuilt master version of Sunnypilot like sunnypilot/staging-c3-new if you wanted the latest of the latest.

I'm pretty sure Rivian has a tacit acceptance of the Comma being used by Gen 1 owners at the point. And I think they're paying attention and almost using us as a test bed for Gen 2 features - for example they're already testing a cooperative steering feature on Gen 2 that looks exactly the same as Openpilot's!

Thanks. I just got the add-on secondary harness from Lukas, what's the latest fork that has the Rivian tweaks in it? Going to try it again.

Hey there. Should I reinstall to this now? I have the 2nd harness and have been using:

xnor-tech/sunny-mads-buttons. Would I notice any difference?

I have the 2nd harness and have been running: xnor-tech/sunny-mads-buttons. Is there any advantage to uninstalling this and reinstalling: sunnypilot/staging-c3-new? Would there be any noticable changes, or should I stay the course? Thanks so much!

I would say yes only because the xnor-tech branches won't be updated or maintained any more.

If I ever get my Rivian back, I can try this again...

Hey, maybe I should try it in the loaner.
