No true at least in my 2024 Quad R1T. It does warm the pack to 30F while driving and that why range usage is abnormally high in the first few miles. Same trip, same conditions and range usage is much better after the first 10 miles when the pack is warmed-up.
Are you sure your pack isn't warming due to discharging of the battery? That's how mine seems to work. I started at 22F and drove 20 miles and it was up to 24F so it didn't seem like the truck was warming the battery, just internal heating due to battery discharging.

Another test could be to charge it overnight and have it complete just before you leave to see what the battery temp is and what efficiency difference is.

Assuming you have the Gen1 large pack? Would be interesting to see side by side with a Gen2 large pack.

Gen 2 Large pack is smaller(16%) than Gen 1 Large pack. Part of the marketing illusion of using the word Max on the now 7% larger G2 Max pack over G1 Large pack. Sure...Max is a big jump to G2 Large...but not so much to G1 Large.

If you charge just before leaving the pack will be warmed-up to 30F… but it won’t by just conditioning the cabin. That’s why my work around is to increase the range set higher than my usual 80% to force charging when I heat the cabin before leaving for longer trips.

Question: Would it make sense to give the battery extra heat (say, warm it up to near the max safe temperature) before departing for a long drive on a sub-zero day (assuming you are plugged in to a charger before departure)?
I'm hoping to test this out some point this winter as well. My thought is to slap some heating pads (like engine block style) on the bottom of the pack, set to heat to 90F or so. Will take a very long time to heat through the protective underbody sandwich, not entirely sure it'll work.

Does charging it up to 95% get the battery warm? I have over night it to 90% then in morning up to 95% before I go. I got the battery to 55 F. Also done the cabin at the last 1/2 hr.

Anytime from any range level it will warm the pack before charging at max power.

I want to clarify..I have a Gen 1 R1S and if I schedule climate conditioning with it set to draw power from the wall when plugged in, my car does in fact heat the battery to ~50degF. I just did this today.

Only if the cabin heating brings the range below your target and then start to charge the pack. The trigger to warm the pack is not the scheduled pre condition of the cabin but the request to stay at your target range. This doesn’t work for me as a warm pack at 80% after evening charge will show 83% with a cold battery in the morning, so the scheduled heating of the cabin is not enough to trigger the charging. Again as I said numerous times now my 4 years old Tesla do warm the pack if plugged in when you heat the cabin no matter what is the range level… I hope Rivian is reading this thread and is taking notes for future update.

It may be a conscious choice by Rivian to not waste/consume additional energy. Many people simply don't need full range and only drive tens of miles in a day. In the event I need a warm battery for a large trip, I will choose to charge to 90% overnight then set to 100% in the morning.

That doesn’t make sense as you will spend it anyway in the first 10 miles while 10-15% of range is burned to warm the pack.
