Hi Everyone,

After installing the new update, I was curious what I could do with my iPhone and Chromecast so I download an app from the store called Replica.
It works! I don't have Connect + either. You can see your entire phone screen on the vehicle's screen. I opened up Youtube, played a video and it worked great.
No controls on the screen, obviously; You have to use your phone.

That's it for my limited testing. Sorry, I don't have an extra phone to take photos of it.

I'm curious to see what others get into.

Merry Christmas.
This is quite helpful, and will certainly be of use on occasion to my family. Thank you for sharing!

Happy Holidays everyone.

Google Photos lets you cast your camera roll without having to jump through hoops.

I want my passenger to be able to watch a movie.
Movies on the run I think is ok or the option of why shouldn’t your passenger copilot be allowed to relax as well? Yes while you’re driving, it can be a distraction but yes while you’re driving the bigger screen is the windshield that you’re looking at while you’re driving..
and for the sake of just verifying and quantifying the law, it just cannot be in the line of sight of the driver and the road so off to the side. I think it’s perfectly fine and I only ask why not.
if you wanna argue that argument and deny the practice, then stop the Uber drivers from having their phone apps on the windshield

Thanks for the tip. That will be very useful, not only in the Rivian use case, but also where AirPlay doesnt exist.

Not really my use case, but I’m curious to try out a blue tooth game controller (looks like a PS4 controller), to control games on iPhone that are projected onto the big screen. It might make time pass at charging staions

Apps like OnX or even casting messages so you can see them would be great but we get a half baked solution for now. At least it's something. We'll see what comes next but nothing in connect plus has interested me. There's always a gotcha or they rethink some feature and make it less useful. It takes lots of time and effort for new features to be developed and Android Automotive is in its infancy. Rivian is also dependent on Google for updates.

Thanks for posting. Bummer that it cost $30/year. Was hoping for a no cost option or at least non reoccurring cost.

Tried Youtube TV using Connect+ cast to center display, but you can’t navigate the app via the display.

Great info, thank you. Personally see a lot of benefit in screen casting as I spend a fair amount of time waiting in line for the ferry.

I followed the suggested instructions on the update but could only cast YouTube. There are many options on the App Store including one w/106K (mostly 5-star reviews) by Swishly. Curious if you checked out any others?

Thanks again for the info.

I tested out using a nimbus Bluetooth controller hooked up to my iPhone while mirroring through Replica which was Google casting to the R1S. It works, but visual response lag was such that it's probably not going to work for arcade games.
Rivian R1T R1S Screen mirror your iPhone to Rivian display - via Replica App IMG_5087

Also attempted Apple TV downloaded movies. It errored about format though I suspect DRM issues.

Rivian R1T R1S Screen mirror your iPhone to Rivian display - via Replica App IMG_8395

Wait. I’m confused by this. This app relies on the latest update that still needs you to be parked, right? Am I missing something?

Also, this…
You don't have Connect+ and this works? Is that just because everyone's on a free trial right now? Or do you expect that this will work forever?

Correct. Latest update needed. Have to be in park to use.

I was just commenting that it would be nice if you didn't have to be in park so a passenger could watch while traveling.

So, your argument is that if other people can do stupid things, you should be allowed to do stupid things as well?

If you sincerely think that a movie playing on the center screen is not a distraction, then I can only conclude you're lying to yourself. Do you really believe that there's nothing that could happen on that screen or on the audio track that would draw your eyes away from the road, even for a split second? And the fact is that movies are designed to get and keep our attention. For the most part, on most roads and on most drives, there's nothing outside the windshield that can compete with that.

Yeah, you have a right to be stupid, but you don't have a right to endanger others by your stupidity. So even if you really believe you are superior and can drive safely at all times with a movie playing, that's absolutely not true for most people and *I* don't need those people endangering *my* safety.

Check the Settings of each app (from iPhone Settings) and make sure the setting is flipped on to allow Network access. I've tried a bunch of apps and they all work. So, if YouTube is casting from your phone (i.e., you don't mean using the built in app in the vehicle) you've got it all going except maybe that setting on specific apps.

You're trying to bend the definitions to justify your position. The center screen is in line of sight of the driver, no matter how you try to rationalize that it is not, unless their head is in an immobilizer and they can't move their eyes, lol. All one has to do is observe traffic and rubberneckers who are passing an acident to invalidate your argument.

In general, most state laws specify VIDEO as being illegal. Navigation apps are not illegal. From your statement "Movies on the run I think is ok" and " then stop the Uber drivers from having their phone apps", it seems you do not understand the difference between VIDEO and a navigation app?
