The app notifies us when charging to target SOC is complete.

It doesn't seem too much to ask it to notify us when charging stops because of the charger -- especially from Rivian chargers, where it gets information from both charger and vehicle.

Thanks for raising this!

I've had this happen on the Rivian app, but no noise or vibration, so I only know if I'm looking at my phone. If I'm grocery shopping, walking the dog, or otherwise engaged, I won't know.

I've also had this happen on the EA app with a rental EV, again it didn't vibrate or make a noise, I happened to look at my phone and saw it cancel while in a mall. I quickly went out and saw the person next to me leaving in a hurry, people waiting in line said she pressed buttons and tried the other cable on her car, then rushed off when she realized what she did.
If you have an iPhone go to notification settings for the Rivian App and make sure the sound setting is on.

In Barstow Ca. Dec. 6th. I pull up to RAN fast charge. #3, with My R1T needing an hour of charge. It connects, and says 51 Min. to my set point I walk over to the IHOP in the parking lot. I get there order my breakfast, look at my cell App. charging had stopped. I get up leave my table, walk over to the Rivian charger and I have $5.00 Idle fee. I restart the charger, seems ok, go back finish my breakfast. After the charger is about finished I get in my truck the charger ends I get a second invoice. I hoped since I used the same charger just restarted, the idle fee would not be charged, it was.
Then I get to Las Vegas at the RAN charger the next morning on the 7th. I hook up, all seems fine, it says an hour charge time, I walk to the store to Sprouts store to get coffee and the App says charging stopped, I run back, there is a $10. Idle fee, I reset the charger and sit there the remaining time and ask others if this has ever happened to them, no they said.
Is the reason it stopped charging because I walked away and the truck locked? If so shouldnt Rivian inform people that one must sit with vehicle and not get coffee?
So, I ask has this happened to you? If so is it a just charge in your mind?
Same thing at the same place happened to me. Called customer service, they refunded that fee right away. Great customer service there. Don't know why the problem exists, but I've charged there since with no problem.

I’ve had this happen the last three times I’ve used the RAN at Barstow. Vehicle would error out almost couple minutes after initiating charge. Rivian looked into it and said there’s no issue with my truck. I knew it errored out since I got a notification it charged only to a certain percentage, which wasn’t what I had set it to. All three tithe trucks would charge fine once I switched chargers but not when I retried the same charger.

I'm an Android, sometimes I feel like a Zombie though.. I just have my "Notifications" in general set to "On"

It helps to have the phone show you the charging as it is happening live. I haven't had any errors walking away while fast-charging in either Rivian. I have had chargers error out, though, but I was able to catch it in time to avoid an idle fee. You are not wrong to think you can plug in and walk away.

How I usually approach this situation is I plug in, wait for the charge to initilize then walk away. I will monitor it on my phone while doing whatever else I happen to be doing for the day.

Yea it's easy to go with an assumption that once it starts charging and says "See ya in an hour" that it means it. Also the reviews of charging locations are all about the ammenities near, as if one can use them carelessly!

You’re supposed to be able to use said ammenities. Charging needs to improve for sure.

I agree, improve to the level of efficacy that Gas pumps have at min. Any industry needs to "police" it's self. Advocacy groups that lobby Congress must lobby the industry manufactures to exceed and prove themselves to be worthy of market support.

Like I mentioned before, considering it's happened to you at different RAN locations, I'm inclined to believe it's an issue with your charge port on your truck. Your truck will stop the charge session if it detects the port on your truck getting too hot to prevent catastrophic failure. And by that I mean your truck burning down.

I do make it a habit to inspect the pins of the charging cable before plugging in to make sure there a no stuck pin caps in it. Debris in the charging pins will cause rapid heating too.

A similar thing happened to me at the Santa Nella, CA RAN. It was a hot day with less than 1/2 the chargers in use. The estimated time to charge was about 45 min, the charger stopped after about 10- min. I got back at about 30-min and was hit with an idle fee. I replugged in and continued charging. The idle fee initially showed on my credit card, as pending, but when it actually charged me, there were no idle fees. I considered complaining to Rivian, but they corrected it before I had the chance to complain. I can’t ask for more than that.
I’m really happy with my RAN experiences. I’ve been to more than 10- different ones for a total of more than 50 charges.

Maybe if I shut up they will just not charge me? So, for the record, if they erase the charge, I will post a 5 star rating...and erase the comments. Hint, hint..

This is a 5 star rating for Rivian charging charges. I was not charged the idle fee! Thank you Rivian. Not only that, the price for the KWH was low.
