Please stop asking for CarPlay - it’s terrible

My R1T has been in the service center for two weeks now so I’ve had a Jeep Wagoneer for a rental and it comes with CarPlay. After finally getting to play with and learn CarPlay, I have to say that CarPlay is a huge NO for me. I significantly prefer the maps that Rivian provides and just use Waze on my phone. And Spotify is FAR superior on the Rivian’s system than through CarPlay. I cannot wait to get my R1T back (may even check with Enterprise to see if they have an R1S in stock that I can get). So please, stop requesting that Rivian use or implement CarPlay.

Totally agree. I have CarPlay in my wife's BMW and I'd much rather have the Rivian software in there.

Sorry but major disagree here. Carplay works better for music, navigation, messaging, and phone calls. Rivian would be fine except for Apple Music glitching constantly. To be fair these are software issues and can be fixed but after selling my Rivian and going Carplay full time I never have to worry about it because Apple actually keeps up with there updates!

Spotify is better on your Rivian sound system than your base model loaner Jeep? Yeah, I'm sure it is.

The difference is that I can choose to use Waze. Or Apple Maps. Or Google Maps. Or _shudder_ MapQuest. Or whatever I want on CarPlay. And those all compete with each other and are adding new things that Rivian (or Tesla, or GM, or even Ford or Jeep) take longer to add.

And it adds car-screen interfaces for media apps that the vehicle maker doesn't support yet.

Don't even get me started on text message integration.

And adding CarPlay (and Android Auto) doesn't mean the carmaker has to *STOP* developing their own system! Or make their own system worse. I'm just asking for the option.

Different vehicles implement CarPlay differently and it might depend on screen orientation too. Had my Rivian in for an alignment and I enjoyed having CarPlay on the rental. Waze is so much better than Rivian navigation. But I know we will never get CarPlay so this won’t be a rant that we don’t have it. But the fact is, CarPlay is pretty good.

Fantastic. The only thing worse than yet another “where is CarPlay” thread is another “I don’t like Carplay thread”.

What is hilarious is the people asking for CarPlay have used (and like!) CarPlay so why are you telling them it is terrible. They’ve used it. They aren’t going to take your word (which isn’t even a reasonable position since you. . . . You an alternate app on your phone) for it.

I have used CarPlay for 7 years (and seriously, you JUST used CarPlay for the first time?) . . .

I am not even someone who cares if the implement Carplay but can we stop with this nonsense?

We’re an Apple family. Love the product. Never use CarPlay. We use Apple for the security. Don’t use google, I’m old school and don’t want my data Sold.

Not all implementations of CarPlay are created equal. Some are quite good, others...not so much.

I don’t disagree but just by sharing your thoughts on this dead horse of a topic, all you accomplish is triggering those who cannot live without it to talk about it even more; with the same tired, emotionally charged arguments. Best thing to do is not talk about it. Ever. Just stop. Wassym has already spoken, multiple times. Leave the man and his team alone to make the Rivian infotainment all that it can be.

Know what I don’t have to do with CarPlay? Use my phone while I’m using CarPlay……
