It is the after market wheels that I can’t find though.
Rivian will sell 20 wheels for around $700 each. MSW are a budget option. We can get Michelin tires for 21 wheels too.

We have a R1S purchased in March 2024. I started noticing problems driving in the rain in the summer. The vehicle would seem to slide around a lot. My husband noted the tires looked worn at 7,000 km and we made an appointment to have this checked out. We couldn’t get in until late Oct for a service check initially. We then had a water leak from the HVAC system and they toed the vehicle in Oct 1.

Eventually the leak was fixed and the looked at the tires and pronounced them unsafe to drive with. We were expecting a new set of tires and we wanted All Weather tires not All Seasons which are not legal on some of the roads here after Oct 1.

Apparently, there are no snow rated tires for 21” wheels and Rivian doesn’t warranty the existing tires. They said that is through Pirelli but Pirelli says they don’t warranty tires on new vehicles, Rivian has to initiate the warranty claim.

So far, I am very disheartened by this whole experience. I really liked my vehicle but the thought of having to replace my tires every 5,000 km is horrifying.
9k km on my Pirelli Scorpion 21 in. tires. No issues, look largely as good as new.
You should look into getting at least prorated discounts on tire replacement for premature wear.
I rarely rip the road or blast off from standstill.
Also, my R1S is forever since day one on All Purpose, standard height.
Hope it all works out well for you.

I found the front wearing faster than rear. I have, or had, OEM 21" scorpoins they suck, you are correct. The weight vs the power of the vehicle create pressure, where the tire hits the road! I live on a windy road and a steep road. The road is mostly over 10% slope and steeper. The power of the vehicle pushing that weight is hard on extra soft rubber. These OEM tires are extra soft so they will grip the road and stop a skid even in wet weather. The tires are performance tires, not high mileage tires. The safety/ brakeing ratings of the 21" are good. The regeneration function causes an increasing of the wear, once again, the weight is the problem. The batteries cause the weight.

I wonder if auto does standard? the alignment is set for standard hight, not auto. I realize my wondering is a bit symantic, but the cost of tire wear is high, so I sue standard setting.

Over 27,000 miles / 43,000 km on my 21" OE Pirellis. I do swap to a set of Outpost nATs on a pair of 20" Wheels for winter and off-roading.

All of my driving is in all-purpose, auto height, and most of it is in 'firm' with high regen.

I drive pretty aggressively. I do rotate my tires every 5,000 miles. I believe I should see at least another 6-8000 miles before having to consider swapping them (probably going to go with the Michelin's, primarily due to the $100/tire savings).

I did need an alignment almost immediately after taking delivery--truck was pulling to the right. Once the alignment was done, it was driving MUCH better. FWIW: Rivian did repeat the alignment at multiple ride heights. Since I do a lot of highway driving, my truck does spend an above average amount of drive time in 'low.'

Make of that what you will... Just adding a data point. I do disagree that it's 'normal' for our tires to wear out quickly. Remember common ≠ normal.

When you're researching vehicle options before purchase and these are the tire choices available, is there any question at all that one would be fine in the snow and the other two are summer tires?

While I see your point, NY_Rob, one option allowed me to take advantage of the full $7500 tax break (kept me under $80,000), while the others did not. The Atomic Wheels 20" plus the Goodyear Wranglers were way less than the tax savings.

Something is out of alignment on your vehicle...but the 21s do wear faster than the others, no doubt.
I agree, something is amiss. I have 21's with 29,000 miles on my T, and look to have another 15,000 to go. I enjoy a good launch now & then, and like (& use) the available power. I do not drive in conserve mode since I noticed the advanced wear over the rear tires after about 2,000 on road trips. I've rotated about every 12,000, front to back. I guess I'm pretty lucky.

I use conserve a lot, rotate every 5000 miles and drive softly most of the time. Sitting at about 20,000 miles on my 21” OEM. I might have 2000 miles left on them. This particular tire has no warranty no matter where, when or how you buy it.

Update on my 21”- sitting at 26,000 miles with about 2000 left. Check out 1EV- currently having a sale on 20” wheels that match the OEM wheels. 20” opens a whole better tire world.

That's too bad :( I am also in North Van and have been using the 21s since I took delivery in March of 2023. I have about 20-25,000 kms on them, and I checked tread depth yesterday and they have about 65% left, which makes me think others are possibly right - you could have an alignment issue (which others on here have experienced too). The other big culprits as others have said are Conserve mode which you mentioned you don't use (I avoid it at all costs unless straight, flat highway driving on a long road trip), and even dropping down to the low ride height seems to lean the wheels inward causing uneven wear. How is your air pressure? I keep mine at 48-49 psi cold.

I also have a separate set of snow tires for winter, and you're right - there unfortunately isn't anything for the 21s. I wound up getting a whole separate set of 20" rims and snow tires through 1010 tires in Coquitlam and they have been great and easy to swap each season. I have the R1T, so I use one of the "off season" tires as my spare in the bed. If you want a referral to the store in Coquitlam, drop me a message and I can forward the info. They have enough experience with Rivians that I trust them (I went to a number of tire shops initially before I settled on these guys).

Good luck! It would be incredibly frustrating to have to replace them now, but rest assured that it isn't normal and once you find the culprit you should get plenty of life out of them.

I never rotated my stock 21s but still got about 25k miles or so. The rears were shot at that point tho.

Went the Atomic wheels route as well - 20' bronze wheels with Michelin Defender MS2. It's been about 20k miles and they were 9/10 all round at my last rotation (yeah I've been diligent with rotations at 7500 miles). Still have my original wheels and tires (wasn't gonna sell em for peanuts) in anticipation of future tire options. Love the look and offset of the AWs, so will prob never use the stock 21s again (unless some winter tire options show up). I digressed ....

When the time comes, I will most likely get same Michelin Defender MS2s tires. They are now available on the stock 21 rims and probably perform just as well. Good wear, good traction (in rainy PNW), does well in my light off roading.
