I just contacted Rivian service support (via chat through the app) to schedule my 22,500 mile service. I was expecting to be able to schedule this via mobile service but was told that this can only be performed at a service center. Has anyone else had experience with this?

Did they give you an estimate of what it included? Maybe it has a detailed inspection of the undercarriage, which can't really be done without a lift.

I haven't seen a specific list for the 22k mile that would indicate it's different from the 7500 mile service. I would still assume that is the explanation ?‍♂

Yes, it will need to be done at SC. While I have 37,000 miles on mine, I have not had any of the service performed. So I called to schedule and decided on the 22,500 mile service. They said it's much more comprehensive and involves putting the truck on the lift. They inspect suspension components, drive units, sub-frame, etc. It sounds like they will complete any service bulletins/campaigns that have not been performed as well.

Although, who knows what they actually do? It could just be a money grab for them. I may not go through with it, but worried that if I don't any something happens, it may not be covered under warranty (or they will at least try to fight me on it).

Unfortunately, when I called about 3 weeks ago, the earliest they could get me in was mid-February! I'm in the Philly area and this was for the Trenton SC. He said they are absolutely swamped. Duh! Maybe they should have re-thought the SC rollout!

Fundamentally, EVs really require no routine service.

The only thing is to refill fluids (washer fluid), rotate tires and perform visual inspection.

Unless there is something loose or broken, there's nothing else to do - which is why I like EVs. No oil change, filter changes, coolant flush and so on every 10k~15K miles service intervals.

Its not just the cost of service (yes I know many vehicles have 3 yr service included - you do know that the cost of the service is embedded in the purchase price of the vehicle by the mfg, right?), its the time involved and required to get the vehicle serviced.

I am currently contemplating a hybrid vehicle (a weekend vehicle) and the thing that's holding me back the most is the ICE aspect of the vehicle. Not looking forward to have to deal with buying gas and keeping maintenance schedule and so on....

Just had it done at the Boston SC. Also had to go in. When I pick it up tomorrow I’ll see if I can get more detail on what was done.

I was wondering what this 22,500 service was all about. If Rivian isn’t recommending it, why is anyone having this done? (Real question, zero snark)

I changed the cabin filter to the one from BestEVMod a few days ago. Put it up on the lift and then got the tallest ladder I could find, so I could climb into the frunk to get it out. "mechanic stuff".... ?

It was specifically recommended at the time I had it done as detailed in the two links in my post.
It may have been due to issues they were seeing at the time that may not be applicable now.
I've saved as many pdf copies of the manuals as they are released and they are all different - just growing pains of a new company.

I contacted Rivian for the 22,500 mile service and expected to go to the SC. They sent a mobile tech to my house to perform the service. TOTAL waste of money in my opinion. It was basically what I would consider a "courtesy inspection" had my vehicle been in for another service problem.

He crawled under the chasis for a flashlight inspection. Took tire tread depths. Topped off the windshield wiper fluid. Cleaned the pins on my portable charger. I have the rubbing noise on the steering column when it retracts... he said I'll have to schedule a SC appointment to correct that.

$200 and 45 minutes later... he's on his way. Never got a report, checklist, or anything other than, "All looks good". Unless you have a problem, I'd suggest saving the effort and money. YMMV.
