I got this one just over 2 weeks back. A lease.

After the first week the first software glitch popped up - The car icon and the map went out of sync. Called support. Hard reset. Fixed.

Starting second week, Collision sensors not working warning popped up. Hard reset, fixed.

Three days back 3 warnings - that sensor one back, tire pressure not correct, airbags not working. "Service needed.". Hard reset. Two gone, the airbag one still around.

Two days back - get near the car. Not opening. "Waking up.." Wait a few minutes then finally.. opened up.

Today, went to drop off daughter at a friend's place. Fortunately I was within 5 miles of home. After dropping her I could not get back into the car for a few minutes. Same "Waking up.." for a few minutes. Then it opened. But almost 20 different alerts came up including Battery in critical state, brakes in bad shape and what not. Disabled the car, so could not start it. No luck with hard reset - twice. Called Rivian, told me to step off for 45 minutes while they do something to the car. After spending on Uber and coming back, it finally started but still with 2 warnings about airbags and tire pressure (the second went away after some time).

So with only ~500 miles on odometer and 2 weeks, I am really regretting if I made the right decision. Have to travel 200 miles one way next weekend, and I am not sure what my options are.

Extremely disappointed!

I've had a lot of SW issues as well with my 2025 R1S. The hardware is excellent but the SW is very buggy. I think they have a lot to iron out with the gen2 platform. I'm holding out hope because I really like the car and like the company.

That stinks. Hope service gets you taken care of.

Stupid question, but have you checked to ensure your tires are inflated to 48+ PSI? What pressures is the vehicle showing on screen?

Sorry to hear this. Call Rivian support and tell them the car is not safe to drive. They will arrange for a tow and earlier service appointment.

Rivian still has a lot to do with QC at the factory. I was hoping with the switch to the gen 2 assembly they would iron these issues out. But it really still feels like they just roll them off the line and sell them without any checks at all.

Oof. Sad to hear that this many issues are still occurring even with the newer Gen2’s.

I have a gen1 R1S VIN <8,000 and haven’t had any real issues with the car at all.

Very odd to hear a new one with a laundry list of issues such as yours. I’d complain and complain and see if they can get you a loaner or something due to the amount of shit you’re putting up with.

It’s honestly such an incredible car and company. Hope these bumps don’t turn you off for good :(.

Hopefully they are putting alot of resources into refining the G2 software. I am sure that was a very involved and complicated migration from the domain based architecture to the zonal.

My experience with Rivian support has been stellar except a fob update glitch which is reoccurring. Hopefully they get you sorted out quickly. I understand your regret, but once this is fixed hopefully you will have no more issues. Personally I went for the 2024 after watching an R1 vs R2 video showing many of the differences and it seemed to me they were cutting some corners cost wise to make themselves more profitable. Hopefully it’s just something silly they can resolve OTA, but I 1000% understand your apprehension, I would be in the same boat if that was my experience in 500 miles of ownership. Best of luck getting it resolved quickly.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Hopefully things get better. Starting to wonder whether Rivian should have sidestepped the Gen 2 and just focused on trying to get more people into the Gen 1 while prepping for the R2/R3. They could have come back to the Refresh.

Doesn't help with profitability and brand if new owners in a new refresh are heading back to servic with software related problems. In addition, now you're stretching your software team with trying to manage software issues amongst different Gens drive trains, etc.

It's always the 12V battery unless proven otherwise.

I echo the rest of the people out here saying that, hopefully, you can get your issues resolved shortly and find out what so many of us already know about how great Rivians are. I have had an R1T for two years. Recently, I started shopping to replace it as I need an SUV to address a space issue with my large dogs and teenage son. I ordered an R1S tri.

I was thinking the same thing. Rivian should have stuck to the G1R1 and fixed the servicing issues. Maybe even get a head start on the R2.

The refresh wasn't done to make the trucks better for US, it was to make the trucks better for Rivian. The wire and CPUs removed, amongst other various changes, were designed to reduce the production cost per unit. I guarantee the calculation on what the cost spent to retool vs the cost saved per vehicle was performed and the decision was made in favor of the refresh.

Unless you had access to Rivian's internal numbers, you have no real way to say whether or not they should of done the refresh.

They could have focused on putting that architecture into the R2 line instead of complicating their flagship line. Port it over if and when it makes sense.
