"Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust"? Is fake "Rolling Coal" Next?

Hey, I understand wanting some attention and admiration that you own and drive a muscle car. It looks cool, it's powerful and noisy.

Well, I really enjoy the R1S QM and the ridiculously quick launches that it delivers, effortlessly, quietly. The occasional jack rabbit start from a light attracts zero attention from the constabulary unless they were purposely looking for it, no noisy exhaust notes of smoke. +1 for BEV's.

Stellantis is launching it's electric muscle car, the Dodge Charger Daytona. I appreciate the retro styling for the same reason I appreciate the R1; it's not an amorphous egg shaped snooze. I like the Lighting for the same reason. However, they're equipping it with fake exhaust megaphone. The Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, let that name marinate for a second... seems like an unfortunate sophomoric name for a noise maker. May they could enable options for other sounds, I'd pay for that Jetson's flying car sound, but only in launch mode.

This may be my "get off my lawn" old guy moment, but really? Is this "next level" marketing or just silly? I fully expect a smoke machine option for the rolling coal diesel fans.

If the sounds are piped outside the vehicle, it's idiotic and just adding to already bad noise pollution. If the sounds are constrained to the cabin... let the idiots make themselves deaf for all I care.

I'd go so far as to suggest it be made illegal to pipe other than low speed pedestrian warning sounds out from an EV.

It’s all a silly marketing gimmick to bridge the ice-to-bev gap and sell cars. Do we need it, no way. But OEMS have been marketing fake exhaust ports and piping engine noise into the cabin for years. Whatever sells cars. I kinda like the smoke screen idea though ?

Many neighborhoods are terrorized (!) by people wanting to make noise with vehicles - for the sake of noise.

I don't recall owners of Muscle cars, "ricers" or Harley's riding around Manhattan in the wee hours. I'm not aware what laws were in place to make sure that didn't happen. Trash trucks all night were enough!

I'm sure that other municipalities have addressed this problem. I sure wish mine would.

I have the Borla speaker exhaust on my Mach-e. It's great for me as I miss the "soul" of the vehicle Did a great job as has cold start, burble on decel. It has 2 Mustang engines, LS3, and Hemi sounds so can change based on mood. Best part is able to turn off when with family etc.

I'm a gearhead so understand not for all, but great to have the option. Now just need it for the Rivians ?

No, it fits where standard exhaust would, so can hear both inside and outside vehicle.. Ford definitely designed it for it. It is essentially 2 6x9s with an amp hooked up to the computer. It freaks people out for sure. Definitley doesn't sound as good as my supercharged ls3 but it isn't bad outside of the vehicle.

Wonder if the producers' patented the idea and then sold it to dodge...

That's both sad and disappointing. Like we don't have enough noise in this world without Ford needlessly adding even more to it. Pipe it in to the cabin.. awesome, have at it. Pipe it outside where we are forced to hear it.. terrible idea if there's no way to turn it off.

What's next?

Why not simulate the out-of-balance nature of an engine with a lightened crankshaft? They need to put cam lobe weights on the output shafts so drivers can experience that great vibration EVs are missing!

While they are at it, they should probably pipe a little bit of carbon monoxide leaks into the cabin so motorists can still become dumber the more they drive!
