First Impressions Well, I decided to go down to the Atlanta space, and they happened to have one for viewing, and one for driving…so I booked a demo last minute. They accepted…and immediately when sitting in it, I don’t know what they did, but for the drivers seat, it has a bit more room…I am 6’3 so having lots of room helps. The frunk is definitely smaller, but not much smaller. Still bigger than many frunks. Door is lighter, I prefer the heavier feel of the gen 1. The new light bar looks excellent, and I noticed the quality of the interior felt put together better. The new UI is amazing, and the camera quality is insane, and loving the camera turn signals.
Regen Braking:
This is so much smoother, and efficient. Much more easy to modulate, and won’t give a whiplash, while still being strong…and the low setting is almost like coasting. No more high regen.
Quietness:
The example I drove was a dual standard with 22inch sport rims. It was like a library in there compared to the gen one. Extremely quiet in regards to wind noise, and you can tell the different above 70 also…and the air compressor wasn’t loud either….in this heat wave of 95 degrees. AC was great, and I did not hear the motors at all except for flooring it.
Ride Quality: This was the determining factor for me. Going over the huge potholes and rough roads of downtown Atlanta WITH 22 inchers, I was taken back of how smooth it was. It didn’t feel anywhere as harsh or anything as the gen 1. The firm setting is like soft in the old one, but even more controlled. Excellent ride quality over smooth pavement, and the dampening control is excellent, very smooth ride…now matches the price tag. Easily comparable to my MDX Type S and X7 in terms of air suspension ride quality. Great improvements.
Acceleration:
I don’t know if they changed the throttle mapping with the dual, but it’s so much smoother with power delivery than it already was, and seems to have more response and torque even though the numbers didn’t change. It had a wow factor…I didn’t feel like I was missing out much from the performance upgrade much less the quad..and yes, top speed is 130. Don’t ask…
Handing and Final Impressions:
To me, it handles much more predictably and less jittery and unsettling when you really push it. Handles like a dream…that said…Gen 1 handles amazing also. Overall, it’s an evolution and improvement of an already great product. I’ll be placing my order tonight. Feel free to ask any questions.
