Have an R1T that I don't plan on replacing. I will likely put a deposit for an R2 just cause (mostly because I'm a shareholder). My wife's car is a PHEV and I'm not sure we're ready to replace it and go full electric but who knows, maybe things change by the time R2 is released.

I voted yes, first Rivian.

For me, the R1 series is too big. I like the off-road aspects. But, no family, no friends, not even a dog! And, despite all that space, the R1t manages to strike out when it comes to my kayak paddle and perhaps my skis.

Then, there's the cost. In Canada it's a big ouch. For that money I have to get exactly what I want. Also concerned about the further costs if there are repair bills to pay for. Some examples I am seeing on this forum are pretty alarming.

So, why do I think the R2 series might work better. For starters, there is the cost. Will be much easier to swallow. And, ongoing repairs/maintenance, even if on the high side, won't feel so bad if the initial cost is not through the roof.

The lower height of the vehicle will make it easier to load my kayak. The long roof line, which could be fairly flat, if you believe that photo of the R2s on a rooftop, should be reasonable for firmly holding my long kayak.

There should be enough room inside to hold all my gear, maybe even that long kayak paddle. Unlike my current pickup box, I won't be able to hose down the inside of the R2s, so I will have to take care not to get salt water in the fabric. Maybe get some mats to protect the interior.

I expect the R2 to have decent off-road chops, even if they aren't as good as the R1 series.

One of my big questions is going to be the range. Will the smaller vehicle lead to a smaller battery leading to a smaller range. That could be a problem.

Options if I don't like the R2s? Could wait on the R2t, but I suspect if I don't like one, I won't like the other. That Toyota EPU concept looks interesting. Maybe the Scout SUV.

Really, really hoping Rivian comes through for me with the R2s. Have money, am waiting!

I will do a deposit. Have an R1S that I love, but it's bigger than we really need. Don't need 7 seats. Don't need quite this much cargo space -- the frunk makes a big difference! 2026 would just be 3 years with the R1S, so I probably won't switch right away, but I'd like the option. My wife might also be ready for an EV at that point -- probably not because she loves her Kia Niro.

So, yeah, like a couple of others, I'll put down $100 for the optionality of it, and will probably delay purchase for a while. Unless of course any tech improvements are a big deal.

Very unlikely, unless against all odds the release a somewhat Maverick sized R2T, that might tempt to replace my R1T.

But 70kWh is certainly something that can give you 300 miles of range if the vehicle is small enough and aerodynamic enough.
You'd have to get 4.3mi/kWh to drive 300mi on a 70kWh battery pack.

Even the top/top performing EV sedans barely touch 4mi/kWh under almost perfect conditions. The chances of getting anywhere near 4.3mi/kWh out of an SUV form factor, no matter how small are slim to none.

I would be thrilled if the R2 got close to 3mi/kWh, but even that is difficult for a true 4-door SUV shaped vehicle.

How does the Rivian reservation process work? I'm planning to buy an R1 this summer so wont be interested in an R2 for long after it launches, but could be very interested in downsizing in 3-4 years. Can I put down a deposit and just sit on it as long as I want?

I would imagine so, but this time around I expect Rivian to over-emphasize what they said for R1 "deposits" - namely the price you will pay is NOT GUARANTEED. And if you wait for years to purchase you're going to have to purchase at whatever the going price is at that time.

There's going to be none of this price-protection nonsense for the R2.

Yeah, that's understandable.

Yeah, they will probably not announce specific price points for different options/packages at this time. They'll probably announce general features and a price range that is highly qualified as subject to change. I'll bet specific configuration pricing won't be available until a few months before deliveries start and they have to start locking in the first orders' configurations.

Haven't read all five pages but I think you're probably going to get biased results in a Rivian Forum, LOL. ?

That said, I'll put down $100 bucks. Absolutely. I believe in the company and don't mind giving them a hundred bucks interest-free loan for the next couple years. Same as I gave Canoo and a few other companies. I'll "kick the can down the road a few years" if we actually need a vehicle at that time and if it meets our needs at that time. Lot of things can change between now & then.

This is literally the LEAST scientific poll ever created ?. The purpose is more to satisfy my curiosity than anything else. I didn't even think about buying some as fleet vehicles but now I am. This community is amazing.

Lol, I made myself nauseous going 0-60 in 3.5 seconds with the dual performance. I can't imagine quad performance. ???
I've never done a "launch" but just pressing the gas pedal too hard on my quad puts me back in the seat. Living in the traffic-y hellscape of Northern Virginia there's few places where I could really "floor it", but yeahhh, it's plenty fast, LOL. ?
