So, I know a lot of us figured March might be the time, but I spoke with someone in Rivian Service who said they had a team call recently, and a lot of news is coming in March. I really, really would love to have that Tesla network sooner than later!

It does make sense to lump them together if you think about it. Show the new R2S mention its NACS access and how now all Rivian's have access and adapters are shipping out.

My Rivian contact says the Supercharger network access should be ready (along with adapters) in March or April. They are still sorting through the back-end billing which drives the uncertainty around launch timing.

Access to Superchargers would greatly improve convenience for me. Can't charge at home and the nearest EAs are always hogged by small EVs who don't really need the fast chargers. The Superchargers generally unoccupied past peak hours.

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but working in the automotive industry, I don't see how Rivians will get access to the Tesla network that soon. So much technical and physical logistics that must be cared for.

I don't think it would be that hard. On the software side, it'd work the same way they currently do for Magicdock units, just expanded. Rivian getting adapters out to customers, that's a different story.

Imagine same process, except you bring your own adapter to the regular Tesla charger. Easy. Peasy. You will immediately see how dumb all other networks are (EA, EVgo, etc.).

I don’t see how you don’t see it’s. The tech for adapters already exists (see magic doc locations) and is just being tweaked. Billing isn’t really an issue either since you will be required to simple download the Tesla app and select a monthly membership (or not) and save a card for billing….its already there, so what are you going on about?!

Tesla already figured this out with the magic docks. They just need to allow certain cars on other v3 chargers with a similar adapter. Pretty sure the Rivian supplied adapter is going to look exactly like the magic dock.

So if it works exactly like the Magic Dock chargers, how is Tesla going to restrict charging only to certain brands of vehicles? Obviously, there is an additional ingredient. For example, the charge might need to be initiated from the Rivian/Ford/GM/etc. app instead of the Tesla app, but that still doesn't restrict it only to those brands because I could be charging my Bolt but using my Rivian app. For example.

Regardless, we're waiting for TESLA to enable this. Until they do, no CCS vehicle can charge at a non-Magic Dock V3 supercharger. Ford and GM are going to be the first to be able to access some of these superchargers, in February supposedly - maybe after that we will find out from Tesla when they will let Rivian in.

Your Tesla account, when you set it up. If you have a non-qualifying brand, you wouldn't be able to complete account set-up. And there is probably some handshaking going on between the Tesla network, charger and vehicle.

Download the Tesla app now and play with it. Even if you don't intend to use it to charge. Right now, it shows you where the Magicdock chargers are, as well as all other within Tesla's network that you are locked out of. Once Tesla opens their entire network to you, if you qualify, then all those "locked" locations would be open to you just like the Magicdock locations. No need to use your Ford, Chevy, or Rivian app to initiate charging.
