Ummm, no recovery hooks? Hey Elon, all REAL trucks have recovery hooks these days. So if you have to do a front recovery, you wrap a kinetic strap around the control arm (one of which is stamped), launch and hope for the best????

Meanwhile, Elon is bragging that a CT towing a 911 can beat a 911 in a drag race. Yeah, Elon because everyone knows the 911 is the premier drag race car at tracks across the US on a Saturday night. Another PT Barnum exhibit. Fair's fair, let's see the CT run the Nurburgring against the 911.

Don't forget, it was only an 1/8th mile as well

can it serve briefly as a boat? absolutely not. By almost any definition boats can steer and move under their own power. Can it serve briefly as a raft or barge? Absolutely!

That might actually help to explain the design aesthetic.
Just the fact that Tesla hasn't released any video of it in "boat mode" probably means it's BS anyway. I mean if any water started leaking in to the bed area that extra weight and out of balance condition would quickly bring the whole vehicle down.

Great, one more thing for me to forget to put the plug in the under bed storage. Always triple check when backing down the ramp.

I remember seeing a few years ago a Tesla (3 or S) driving through a flooded tunnel, and they were able to change lanes to get around the other stuck vehicles. I think the spinning wheels provided just enough forward motion and steering.

Also, did you see that supposedly the CT has an option to pressurize the battery compartment for brief floats. :)

I did hear this, and frankly it sounds like complete Elon-speak bunk. EV batteries, or at least the ones in the Rivian, are sealed. They can't be "pressurized" because the air is removed from them during the assembly process.

I was thinking similarly. It seems like adding the feature to pressurize it is admitting that you have a fault in your design or implementation of you battery pack. But, maybe they're just covering the corner case of it developing a leak over time?

Typical Tesla technobabble. It's about as meaningful as the claim of "towing infinite mass".

Claiming it will float? Cars sink. What magical buoyancy device has Tesla added?

I'm not sure if it's actually floating. But this is the video I was referring to:

Can't wait to see the first one sink in "boat mode".. lol :CWL:
You didn't hear? Boat mode has been replaced with "Wade Mode". The fanbois at Elektrek are all over it!
So much for fording small lakes and oceans...

ETA: I also wondered about the need to pressurize the battery pack.
Definitely wouldn't want to drive it north of Palo Alto during the winter. It does, occasionally, rain outside the South Bay...

Heavy trucks in snow is not a great place to be! Why we all need to be careful off-road in our tanks! Or have a tow rope!
If you're not getting stuck, you're not trying hard enough.

Rivian's 12V batteries are too small for the heft of the vehicle, and 48V automotive winches aren't a thing yet. It certainly would be nice to have a winch powered directly off the HV battery but I imagine they'd likely have to design all the way back to the pack to incorporate one.

Maybe it's still on the table with this reported Rivian pack redesign.
It may be slower, but definitely possible with correct gearing.
