So eventually this will require 2 subscriptions, one for XM and one for LTE. Swing and a miss.
Based on the positive responses in this thread so far, it would seem otherwise. Any time "wasted" was likely minimal, and it probably creates a new revenue stream for RIvian.

Poor focus? RIvian has always stated that they wanted to build out a suite of end to end integrated apps. This fits that statement, so how is this poor focus?
IMHO it's an unnecessary focus. We all know XM and many other useful apps would be available to us tomorrow if they added CP/AA. But RJ won't do that because he wants to monetize the stack. The resources devoted to this effort could be redirected to other areas. The company is losing a LOT of money so shouldn't resources be used more wisely?

This is great. Does anyone have any data on getting Apple Music support. It’s one thing I miss from my Tesla.

Don't sign up for a trial with Sirius if you don't want to get spam from them for the next decade.

This. If only SXM had as strong a signal as they do their Billings and collections department.

SXM will be collecting monthly subscriptions from customers taking dirt naps. There’s a better shot at World Peace than trying to cancel SXM.

Except we don't know what the breakdown of resources would be for one vs. the other do we? Adding CP/AA also requires expenditure of resources.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I've heard that about them - I know some who threaten to cancel every year and they have lowered their price each year LOL.

I doubt they could separate it from your Rivian data plan though. Just like TuneIn, it would need that to stream. Other than just the BT connection to your phone for music, all of the Rivian streaming apps use the vehicle's data plan.
My Acura had Sirius and I only wanted the data plan for live traffic. I called them to get that option, paid for one year, and had it forever. Never even saw another bill.

This is very true. They will call and email you multiple times per day even if you had to cancel because you sold the vehicle that was attached to the membership.

Correct, it’ll likely just be a software update that plays over LTE
Useless. While satellite bitrates suck for audio quality, it allows listening when you don't have cell service, which is often the case here in Colorado and throughout the Western US. Literally the only draw to XM for me was being able to use it off-grid save for some of the deeper canyons.

For those less familiar with SiriusXM - what are the major differences between it and TuneIn?
Better content (imho)

Nice to see this update, but I'd only pay $200+ (the current price of SXM) if they integrated an antenna. Not worth it just for another app. Which reminds me I still have my subscription from my old truck, need to cancel that before they charge me another $269 next month. Their pricing is gross. ?

Waste of time and poor focus from Rivian.
I think the Rivian engineers can walk and chew gum at the same time. My guess is this is a very small slice of the development focus which means the return-on-investment is potentially high.

As for SXM, the streaming may actually work better for me, but both satellite and cell coverage are problematic for me about 1/3 of the time, depending on the direction I travel from my house.

Even if they didn't want to integrate the satellite antenna into their vehicles they could at least allow for SXM's portable radios to connect to the Rivian infotainment system. I think that would make most people happy.

Actual cost of the resource, no? But common sense and experience should provide an obvious conclusion that adding CP/AA once would require fewer resources (not to mention immeasurable customer satification) than a slow custom approach for every single app. But then we follow the dollar and what doesn't make sense all of a sudden becomes clear. CP/AA negates the need for an LTE subscription. And RJ is having none of that.

That’s me. Been doing that for 15+years! Never paid full price. After I negotiate a new price, I set a calendar appointment a year out to start the whole process again
Me too, but I gave up on SXM a while back. My wife just got a notice, just days ago, that she is now getting SXM for free. She let it run out about a year ago.

Rivian was actually very clear from day 1 that subscription services would be a revenue stream. So we cannot say they didn't warn us about that. But we don't even know if they profit at all from adding an SXM app do we?

And since your complaint was about the amount of resources spent creating a SXM app without knowing what that works out to, how can you keep saying that CP/ AA would require less? Because we know it would cost more than $0, right?
