LoL I always thought that was a feature to clear the dust before I head on my way ?
Or smear bugs across an otherwise dry windshield. ?‍♂

For anyone curious, I was able to successfully DCFC (Electrify America, Rawlins WY) after the failed update. Phone controls for SoC seem to work just fine, same with the capacitive switch for the charge port door

Didn't need to stop for long, just to assuage my fears for a trip I had planned Thursday, coincidentally to the nearest SC 300 miles away in Denver (unrelated suspension issue)! It will be slightly annoying to not have adaptive cruise, Driver+, or my music available (unless I try the camp speaker trick!)

What's the issue?
As shared earlier today, we’ve identified an issue with our recent software update 2023.42.0 that impacts your vehicle’s infotainment system. We have a solution and are coordinating how we'll roll it out to impacted owners. You can expect an update from us tomorrow morning with next steps.

Can I continue to drive my vehicle?
Yes, you can continue to drive your vehicle as usual.

What do I need to do?
No action from you is needed at this time. If you have any questions, please reach out to Rivian Service Support at 1‑855‑748‑4265.

Im just concerned that there will not be an OTA fix. That wording doesnt explicitly say its an OTA fix, which makes me wonder if it will require either a mobile or service visit.

Ugh, they have an solution but cant share it with us yet? And it needs to be coordinated? That doesn’t sound good. If this was going to be a simple OTA push they would have said that. I think we are going to need some sort of live support to get this done which means it’s going to take a while…

Just have some patience and see what happens, no need to get more anxious at this time. There’s a fix available and that’s the good news

Why would they have said it’s an OTA? You are getting panicked over something that we know nothing about yet.

You assume wrong. Auto wipers leads to the "courtesy wipe" every time you put it in drive which I can't stand. So mine stay off until it actually rains.
My auto wipe does not do a courtesy wipe. Maybe an option somewhere in the software or your vehicle has a mind of its own. I would expect most stay with auto or manufacturers wouldn’t offer it.

It sounds like an OTA and they are working on a method to push it to the failed vehicles.

I assume they have the list of vins as they have been emailing and texting those owners but probably do not have anything currently in place to deploy in that method.

What I’ve learned in this thread.
Don’t apply an update while on a trip or going on one. Should be obvious.
Some don’t know what bricked means. If you can drive the truck it’s not bricked.
And some have zero patience or understanding of mistakes at all.

To be clear, these updates are not automatically downloaded. The vehicle owner has the option of when to start the downloads - correct? I’ve only been around for two of them and can’t remember if I initiated them or not.

FWIW, I was NOT one of the unlucky soles who got this update.
Yes, and Rivian pulled them, so you can’t accidentally install this build
No, the truck will absolutely download the updates on its own without interaction or permission from the owner. It will not install it unless manually started by a local human.

Which is probably part of the issue for deploying the fix. Although you can start the update from the app, they probably need to validate that will work for this fix.
