wasn't expecting current gen R1 support 800v so no biggie. i do still want to know if they plan to support bi-directional charging for vehicles on the 400v architecture. even recently, RJ said all the hardware is already on the vehicle to support this but doesnt appear to be a priority for Rivian to execute on. ive been holding off on getting a generator for a while because RJ keeps teasing that its possible but maybe being naive and should move on. maybe they aren't prioritizing because they dont feel customers are demanding it.

So for those of us with notably lower air flow in the front seat vents since a few updates ago, do we they mean to say we just need to open a service ticket for now?

The cost of the external hardware is somewhat ridiculous. I'm guessing Rivian is just making sure their vehicles are standards compliant here and relying on third parties to do the hardware. It can be hard or impossible to integrate with specific external systems, like if you already have solar on your house. I'm guessing it's a world they just don't have the capability of supporting right now.

Even the companies that have been advertising these systems are dragging their feet on it.

I am surprised at the lack of any real progress around this from anyone in the last couple of years.

I have solar and a power-wall but would love to be able to tie bi-directional charging into my existing system. Just not finding a lot of information anywhere for those setups.

This is literally on the very bottom of my list of wants. The charging has been absolutely fine for using the 400v architecture on my last 6 vehicles..it's great.

Have you been stuck at a current limited charger on your road trip with your R1t yet? Or one that can't output 500A as long as the truck requests it? I have several times. It's annoying.

It would also be nice to have an R1S that charges at more than 220kw. That's less likely with the current gen R1S than it would be with an 800v variant.

I was told by a Rivian engineer that they were "already designing for 800V" at an event in 2019. That was four years ago.

Startups, bless your hearts. Never change!

Fast charging from 80% to 100% is currently painfully slow. So, for extended road trips, you really have only 80% of range available; 70% with buffer. Else, you're sitting around in the sun wasting your valuable time, and taking up space at a charger that may have a queue. A big buzz kill on a road trip, if you ask me. I'd rather have that hour back skiing or swimming rather than waiting around in some crappy parking lot.

My hope is that 800V, which will run cooler, will allow for a higher throughput charging curve past 80% and thus will give me more practical road trip range. This is the value of 800V charging.

This sounds like a good time to implement 800v and a heat pump. Pure speculation other than confirmed reduction of wiring and new tech as stated.
Rivians need heat pumps. They need to escape "California car" status and not lose tons of range in the winter, or while adventuring in the mountains, or skiing. This is an adventure car, it needs to work well at low temperatures.

Lack of dependable EV charging is the biggest issue. Period. The fact that, other than Tesla, there’s no reliable high speed charging network, is absurd. Also absurd is the Tesla SCs are already packed - adding many new car brands to SCs will just make it more frustrating.

After traveling and using CCS for first time (been a Tesla only EV owner for a decade), I do clearly understand why moving to “NACS” makes sense. CCS are huge and clunky and more annoying to actually connect to one’s car.

The thing that really makes Tesla seem easier is the plug and charge.

I have not seen that being talked about with opening the SuperChargers to other vehicles so connectivity remains to be seen if it will be any better. From what I’ve seen of the magic dock videos the connectivity is not much better for non-Tesla than CCS.

More than heat pumps.. .has everyone forgotten the LED headlight that freeze over in driving snow conditions making them useless or worse blinding? We need headlight washers...

Like buying smartphones and computers. There will always be incrementally newer and better. Any heart broken over this inevitable reality is probably wearing blinders?

What does the 800v architecture have to do with the bidirectional charging? Does this mean the R1's can't do V2X charging?

No it means people can't help but thread crap on irrelevant things to the topic.
