Looking through the NHTSA site again today and saw an advisory for AC charging failure

"Rivian is initiating a customer satisfaction campaign for some model year 2022-2023 R1S and R1T vehicles that may have been built with an onboard charger that cannot charge on alternating current (AC). The part supplier shipped onboard chargers that were built with a faulty component. Though AC charging may be disabled in these vehicles, direct current (DC) fast charging is still functional. Rivian will replace the onboard charger. Rivian is launching this campaign for customer satisfaction and to ensure the quality of Rivian vehicles."

Potential build dates from Dec '22 - March '23

My R1T is a late January 2023 build, and I've had no issue with level 2 charging.

Interesting. My T is a Jan 23 build and I’ve zero issues charging on anything ... from 120 (at AirBnB) to 240 / Level 2 (I plug in several times a week to my Rivian home charger) to DCFC.

My 9/22 built T has had zero issue. Can we do a vin search for this on the nets website? Or customer satisfaction campaign an internal thing?

Probably could affect any of them in the population and they don't have traceability on the issue. Should be an obvious enough problem though.

If you are having this notification, some have found lowering the amperage resolves this for the time being. It sounds like it is a thermal issue.

Has anyone been notified by Rivian of this recall? My R1T (12/22) falls into the potentially affected vehicles, but haven't had any AC charging problems to date.

Mine has failed. I'm unable to AC charge. Going on a trip soon and will DC charge until then...

I’ve had this problem intermittently. I just got my truck back yesterday from the service center, but they didn’t identify any issues and blamed a software glitch. Could be unrelated, who knows.

Try lowering the charging amperage down to 40 or 32 amps and try again.

Both our S and T have had this issue. We lower amperage on charging to resolve it until we get vehicle in for service.

Doesn’t work. Tried that earlier in the week.

Mobile tech was here Monday and manually turned on the AC module since it wasn’t even coming on to charge. Threw a ton of errors.

Getting it towed to the SC next week after we take a small road trip.

Oh, sorry to hear that. At least they've already diagnosed the problem, so hopefully they get your R1 back in your driveway quickly.
