Update: Rivian Customer Service just called back... they identified the "jet turbine" noise as the battery conditioner rather than the A/C system. Rivian stated this is not "abnormal" on very hot days - and it has been 95F+ here. They suggested waiting until next OTA update - which might alleviate the issue. Unless it gets progressively louder, I'm OK with this course of action as I'm 3.5 hr drive from nearest Service Center.
It’s the compressor. Doesn’t it turn off when you turn off the HVAC? It’s a behavior change with 2023.22.0. Didn’t happen before.

It’s in the 60s/70s (highs) in the PNW. External heat is not an issue causing this.

I will verify by switching off the HVAC - haven’t yet tried that. I’ll admit the noise does sound more like the battery conditioner to me. Sound clip (within confined garage) below.

Yep, same noise. It will turn off when you cycle the HVAC.

Appears so....and as someone who just drove in 104 degree temps for 3 hours and had no a/c turbine noise....I have no problem waiting....

This update is taking much longer to get to me than previous updates. ?
It may be paused. My friend who gets the early updates was over yesterday and has these HVAC issues after the update. The noise was really loud when he started up.

I'm definitely not updating right away if it does pop up on my truck.

Ummmm, the A/C system IS the battery conditioner, so I'm concerned that either the Rivian Rep doesn't really know, or they were intentionally downplaying this with word salad....

This was discussed extensively in the Munroe Thermal System Teardown. Through valving, ethylene glycol coolant is routed through the battery and can be heated in cold weather via a heater, or cooled in hot weather via the A/C.

"Battery conditioning cooling mode" may be causing the noise, and it's conceivable that software tweaks (compressor speed and valve position) could modify the operation of the compressor and therefore reduce the noise. In the Munroe video, there is a motor operated coolant valve that appears to be variable position (not just open or closed) and modulating this valve in conjunction with the TXV (Thermal Expansion Valve) will adjust the load on the compressor.

Let's hope it is indeed a software tweak to reduce or elimate the problem.

I don’t think it’s paused.

I didn’t see the update when I checked earlier. I just opened the app and now I see this when I swipe up from the vehicle screen:

Received my invitation moments agoo 5:12 CST; so I don't think they have paused. But prior to receiving that invite I was thinking the same as I've never been this late.

my R1T easily gets to 115 degrees or hotter if sitting in the sun while the outside temp is 70-75 in Seattle so it’s possible batteries are getting hot. You can’t base that on the weather report.
