Was going to post same but decided it’s a waste of time for a first time poster. 3 strikes and you’re out!
And also an “Angry” reaction score dropper. And yes, I did return the favor! You can too! ?

I think Tesla has created great products and deserves almost all of the credit for really pushing EV adoption forward. We wouldn't have Rivian without Tesla. They also have the best charging network.

However - I do hope that Tesla focuses on three core areas moving forward: quality control, getting the basics right, and not over-selling future innovations.

There's no reason to provide pricing and specifications for a product that is over 5 years away. There's no reason the latest Teslas should have rattles day 1 and need a service visit. There's also no reason to take away ultrasonic sensors and to never really provide working auto wipers.

I know Rivian is following in Tesla's footsteps in a lot of ways. I hope they are able to avoid these mistakes. The vehicles aren't perfect right now, but I'd like to see QC ramp much faster and more comprehensively than what we have seen from Tesla so far.

With Rivian, I was very satisfied to receive some features Teslas lack:

120v outlets
blind spot monitoring systems on the mirrors (and soon, the cameras)
auto wipers that work
radar
USS
the ability to get real world range in conserve mode at 75+ mph

If/when Rivian ramps RAN and/or other CSS charging companies ramp, I don't know if Tesla would be on my shopping list unless some things change from a quality and basic features perspective.
Sorry that last one is impossible with Elon as the CEO.

And a very “part time” CEO at that! Don’t we think Tesla deserves to have a “full time” CEO?!

I chose the R1T because of several reasons, including how it looks. I am not a big fan of how the Cyber Truck looks. But I loved my Model 3 and it was a tough decision. So far I am happy with the R1T but do miss the model 3 and charging network. It's not for me but whenever the Cyber Truck is available I am pretty confident it will be great.

Youre comparing apples to oranges. The reasons you get more miles in the Model 3, is because it’s smaller battery pack. You need to compare how much kwh youre getting. It Should be be roughly the same

They should be considered criminals in my book.
... or smart, depends how you view it. Elon didn't force anyone to hand over $100 a pop for a reservation which gives early adopters/flippers a very cheap call option (and Tesla a 0% loan).

I agree with you though, Rivian could learn a lot from Tesla (both good and bad).

Agree with much of this. I like the blind spot system. I wish I could get 32 miles added per hour to my R1T plugging into a Nema 14-50 outlet as my model 3 did but I can live with 14. I don't love the looks of the CT but I am sure it will be great when it is released. I would definitely buy another Tesla and recommend it to others.

Yes, I am aware of that. They are very different vehicles. Both with their pluses and minuses in my opinion.

Rivian needs to take some Qs from Tesla. They were going bankrupt until they generated interest in their revised Kick Ass Roadster that has not been produce as well as the cybertruck. Undelivered technology gave them new life. They took in millions of dollars on options that they have yet to produce as well as these two noted vehicles. They should be considered criminals in my book.
My understanding is they can't legally use those deposits towards operating the business.

This thread is hilarious both in what the cybertruck has turned out to be and how Rivian owners are responding.

It is very easy to poke fun at Elon for all of his broken promises, but I respect his mentality. Shoot for the stars and maybe land on mars.

Elon is a terrible person and I can't say that I have any "respect" for him, but he is a ruthless business person and took advantage of every federal subsidy, incentive and loophole to keep Tesla in business. Especially selling CARB credits to other brands.

Most of his broken promises were just because of his late night ego tweeting, but some were actually intentional failures for profit.

I remember all the excitement about the Battery Swap stations that were entirely designed just to take advantage of ZEV credits. All they had to do was demonstrate that it was possible to charge to 80% in 15 minutes and they doubled their California ZEV credits. The cars couldn't actually do it at a fast charger, but a quick battery swap demo was the loophole that got them under Californias 15 minute rule. It was worth the money to build the demo facility just to get the credits.
