I don't get why one feels the need to denigrate the CT to somehow feel better about one's Rivian. I love my R1T but also think that the CT is really cool. I hope they both do well. The enemy is the ICE vehicle not other EVs.
It doesn't make me feel better about my R1T. My R1T makes me feel good about my R1T.

I don't agree with the poster above about powertrain type though, steam powered would be awesome. But I still wouldn't buy it.

Of course snow is going to be a problem w/the amount of torque required to push it off using such a long blade. But even worse will be everyday heavy rain where you need the blade moving rapidly back and forth across the glass to move the water off. That huge wiper arm is just not capable of moving at those kinds of speed without hydroplaning at the tip or lifting most of the blade off the glass without actually wiping any water away.

They need to go w/a two wiper design on that particularly huge windshield just because of physics.

You would think they would have stopped the insanity and moved on from this design. Just like the falcon doors on MX, it doesn't make sense to do this.
I'm an ex-Tesla fanboy and ex-Musk fanboy.
The Cybertruck announcement was my turning point. His behavior since then has only helped.

I've been in many arguments about decisions they've made, both when I was a supporter, when I was more neutral, and now when I'm a skeptic about absolutely everything.

I have a Model X. And I will defend the Falcon Wing Doors till the day I die.

As a parent to small kids, the "get them in and out of the carseats" achievement is second to none.
I've bumped my head on the Rivian's roof frame countless times while buckling the little one in.
I *can't* bump my head on the Model X frame because the door completely clears that space.

If I wanted to put anything on a roof rack, I'd be irritated at the Model X. But I also would've known ahead of time.

If I automatically believed all the naysayers about how poorly they handle being in tight spaces or under low ceilings, I would've been irritated at the Model X. But in 6 years of ownership we've had zero of those problems.

ANYWAYS... And, really the most important point of this post is...

That Cybertruck wiper is asinine.

Until today, I considered CT is ugly, weird, not practical.
But for some reason, that bird eye view looking down that CT in the drone footages, I felt, first time, that CT looked good, not bad to me. Boxy long shape, no round edges, black & silver metal combo, yeah not bad, at least from looking down angle.

I'm waiting for the crash test results to call it attractive, personally. At least then there will be an excuse for oil canning.

I hope he uses that motor to retrofit our tonneau covers
It’s funny you say that. When I saw the wiper working in that video, the grinding, scraping sound I heard the tonneau make on my first mile drive was exactly what I thought about!

Maybe that Tesla employee with the spray bottle was actually there to put out any fires that start from the motor overheating???‍♂

In this case I think the windshield wiper is technically considered a snow plow.

As absurd as this design is can we talk about the performance of the Rivian wipers for a second?

1. The spray barely hits a 1/4 of the way up the windshield unless you're going 70+mph
2. The vertical nature of the windshield seems to get more direct bug hits and they just don't come off with the wipers.

Within 5 minutes of picking up my R1S there was a big splat right in the middle of the driver view and all the wipers did were smear it across for the rest of my hour + drive.
I've resorted to having a small spray bottle and towel in the driver door and will coat the windshield with a ceramic product in hopes that they will be easier to remove.
I've actually never owned a vehicle with a wiper system as bad as the Rivian.

The highest setting is half the speed of what I expect. The autowipers sometimes work well, but a lot of times don't wipe fast enough.

I'm not too concerned about the autowipers, but I have service scheduled to see what's going on with the slowness in manual high. It's actually pretty dangerous. I should make a comparison video between it my Sprinter Van, and my Jeep.
