What’s a “tag”? I’ve heard random people say that for years but never new what they meant. Assumed it was something in the Midwest or east coast. Is that the license plate or the tabs?

Yes, it is interchangable with "plate"

In some states, it' different. In some states you are paying annually to renew both the physical plate AND the registration (the little sticker with the year). In other states, the plate is a one-time payment and you only pay annually for your registration.

Splitting hairs here, technically some states also call their toll stickers "tags".

No state requires updating your plates every year (physically changing out the plate). I have head "keeping your tags up to date" which means paying the annual fee (however you slice it, and could be 1 or multi year) and putting on new sticker(s) if required.

My tag is going to expire in less than 2 weeks. I've contacted Rivian via e-mail and phone on 3 occasions. They keep saying my guide will contact me. No contact yet. What is my next step. I'm in Georgia and also have not received my title yet.

Going forward, if you take delivery - do yourself a favor and do your own title work! There is no reason a title and plate transfer should take 90 days. Usually, it is under two weeks for the title/registration and you can put your plate on immediately.

Make sure you check with GA E-Drives - put in VIN and county. You can keep an eye there to see if anything has been sent to the state yet.

They don't have it then - worth keeping an eye there as well since you'll see when they have received. My tag/registration showed up on a Monday I think it was after seeing it in the system on a Friday. The next Saturday my title showed. This was all with roughly 10 days left until my temp expired FWIW though

I have another question regarding plates. Many states give you a variety of plate styles to select from. UT is one of them. But no one from arivian ever asked which style I might prefer. Has anyone else encountered this, and if so we’re you able to successfully let them know what style you wanted and gotten it oricessed correctly?
No. They choose for you.

I live in California and picked up my Rivian on May 28th. My plates were waiting in the mailbox yesterday when I got home from Oregon. Less than a month later. Now I just have to find the right tool to change the front plate (Torx?).

Georgia here as well, yesterday was the day my temporary tag expired. I took delivery March 23rd. No tag. When I type in VIN on GA website it still says not available. Rivian has no idea when it will be resolved. They offered me a rental truck from Hertz, while I wait. Instead of what I would prefer, which is another temp tag. Also, Rivian has my truck right now, because I was getting wind noise issue fixed. I timed it with the tag expiration, hoping that would help get them in gear about getting my registration finalized. They can't drive my truck back to me, without risking a ticket.

Has anyone gotten their tags in WA yet? @godfodder0901 @AdamL? Curious if I should start annoying the DOL and Rivian, or if they have the process figured out here.
Not me and I'm closing in on 60 days post delivery. No financing, no trade-in, plain vanilla transaction.

Likewise, paper since April 4th. in WA state (that's about 13 weeks). I called our Dept. of Licensing a couple weeks ago. They told me that they were way behind on making plates...supply chain issues came up. When I mentioned that to someone, they were amazed, didn't think we were running short on convicts...

So, at least in WA, this may not be a Rivian issue...or at least not completely.

As part of my ask for escalation, CS called me 2x Friday afternoon. Once to say she couldn't get any better status from T&R team than my guide. Second time left VM that T&R said I'd get my self-service package Wed of this week but she was trying to get it overnighted.

Yesterday and again this morning, I got a notification of a UPS coming from Rivian today. I hope its the docs I need for DMV that CS was successful in expediting. What's puzzling is that I also got another purchase agreement and EDR (electronic data recorder) opt-in doc to e-sign this morning. I assume its all part of trying to get my reg and title squared away.

Anyone else gotten new docs to sign as part of the DMV doc process?
