They always need to inspect for shipping defects - scratches, dents etc - but everything else should have been done at the factory. It's crazy that service centers are backing up with trucks that can't be delivered while then wait for parts that should have been installed and checked at the factory.

yeah I was talking to my guide about this yesterday. I think the service centers are overwhelmed with all these trucks coming in that have to be QC'd and they are starting normal service center repairs at the same time. So trucks are stacking up.

Just like these new Rivian SCs, I've been to several Tesla service centers (who are also responsible for service and delivery logistics) that are overwhelmed with the number of cars they have to store at any given time. None of them were built like traditional dealer lots with big parking lots/structures. I think Rivian will have the same issue.

Not only are the SCs backed up, but the feed back loop to Normal is then backed up blunting quick containment and solutions. Many vehicles are produced with a defect when immediate feedback would minimize the defect to a few trucks.

Looks like I might be able to purchase a truck this year after all!

Today was an eventful day. Woke up to my 8 steps email, my Lightning shipped and I did my first mile test drive.

Overall I was really impressed with the R1T. A lot quieter than my model y, much smoother ride too. Definitely feels like driving a truck. I could feel the size difference between my model y and the R1T. I put a car seat in the center seat, and there was still a good amount of room for the other 2 seats. They only had 1 El Cap at the service center, and it wasn't my vin, so my truck must still be en route. If my truck passes QC, I'll likely just get the R1T and let the dealership sell my Lightning. If any issues pop up, then the Lightning will likely be ready first.

We are on similar timelines. My lightning should be shipping next week and I'm planning on letting it go unless they try to keep my deposit in which case I'll take it and flip it.

Did you go to the El Segundo Service Center? My truck is there waiting on QC with a temporary pick up date of Tuesday if it passes.

Afterwards, I checked my RIVIAN Account/configuration page by clicking the "?" at bottom left side of the page, and I discovered I now have a guide assigned. But no guide contact yet to report.

I'll keep everyone posted, if I hear more. This could be good news...who knows????

I received the same email yesterday. I hadn't seen it before. That's what prompted me to check for the guide assignment.
