Legal to knowingly keep prices low until AFTER an IPO. Reuters: Rivian’s former head of sales and marketing, Laura Schwab, said in a lawsuit against the company in November over alleged “gender discrimination and retaliation” that Rivian has acknowledged a need to raise the vehicle prices “after the IPO”.
Interesting. So the old pricing was strategically held in place until after the IPO despite plans to raise prices.

Rivian kept the old pricing intact just long enough to sell stock and to sell trucks for its employee beta testing program while simultaneously keeping reservation holders and stock purchasers in the dark about how much the vehicles would actually cost.

What a crock.

Changed my vote from undecided to cancel. Not cancelling until they offer to build me my $94,000 truck. Rivian was going to replace the wife’s low mile plug in hybrid Volvo and the really old pickup was going buh bye cause the pickup is only needed rarely through out the year. With the way the prices are going on on EV’s pickups it looks like I will still be burning some fossil fuels when I need a pickup for the foreseeable future.

Got up from a nap and my mood has not improved any. I voted undecided and will likely stay in until I can at least milk the 1k deposit for a test drive (in addition to my cardboard drawing of an R1S) but if had to decide right this moment, I would cancel. I still think the product is great but have pretty much lost all enthusiasm for the company. Like others here, I've talked up Rivian with friends and associates on many occasions because I believed in the company. That won't be happening anymore. Even if I do go through with the purchase, my excitement for the whole thing is dead and can't help but feel a bitter taste in my mouth as a result of how Rivian handled this.

After thinking about it for a few hours I just decided to cancel. Even if they decide to honor the price for people who pre-ordered before a certain date, I've lost all trust I've had with Rivian. I was hoping at the very least to have the R1T as a backup in case Ford tries to screw me over with the Lightning, but that is no longer an option. Now it looks like I'll either get the Lightning, or have to wait a few years for the Silverado EV or Cybertruck(still doubt it ever goes to production). I'm disappointed in Rivian and RJ. I was hoping Rivian would be a great alternative to Tesla, but I guess not. Elon may do a lot of crazy things, but at least he is focused on making Tesla succeed. I don't believe RJ has the same drive.
I cancelled my spouse's R1S reservation earlier. Over the course of the day I've been thinking I'd hold out to see if they walk it back. And then I thought about grabbing a launch edition reservation from someone cancelling. But the more I think about it, the more Rivian has basically only pissed me off in the way they have treated the preorder holders in front of me. And what a sham this is. I'm sleeping on it, but I'm pretty damn sure I'm cancelling my R1T reservation in the morning and getting the Lightning that I have pre-ordered.

As a 2018 reservation holder, I snuck in under the price increase and therefore am the 1/6(!) voting to keep my reservation at the moment. Over the last many months as car/truck prices have become crazy stupid, the R1T felt more and more like a bargain to me. Last month I was contemplating what *two* cars I might alternatively purchase for the same price as my R1T config (~78k) that yielded summative capability... truck + EV car. The two combos I might have pursued (Ridgeline + ID.4 or Ridgeline + EV6) exceeded my current R1T config price by quite a bit, and would probably now be comparable with the price increase. I don't love the way they've handled the roll out, but I still believe in Rivian and that this Swiss army knife of a vehicle is the right one for me... though, I totally empathize with the feelings being expressed here today. Hoping they make it right somehow...
Here's one of the issues I have. Even at the existing price, how will they treat you (or us in theory) in 6 months or a 6 years? Other than a wheel combo, when did Rivian do something positive for their early adopter? And the DSP doesn't count, the stock is down and RJ made a crap load of money off of us supporting the IPO price.

The R1T was my preference over the F150 mostly because of size some neat "nice to have" tricks. Ford has treated me a hell of a lot better than Rivian, and is a hell of a lot more responsive. I'll be envious seeing your R1T driving around, but... oof. Their fall from grace for me has been exceedingly fast and hard. It's literally the only thing of interest I've talked about with friends and family in excitement for the last year. And we went from thrilled this week for you all getting production dates slamming the door on what was my favorite vehicle in 20 years.

I voted undecided but pretty sure I'm out. I'm definitely out at the same configuration I had before, which really wasn't anything too crazy, R1S mostly default. White, Ocean Coast, 21's, and splurged on Adventure vs Explore since it'd be ready sooner and there haven't been any Explores yet to compare against. (sound, whatever else). Now that's in the 90k+ range instead of under 80.

I can still get an R1S at about the same price as before if I do explore, dual motor, la silver (which I was still debating on anyway), and black instead of ocean coast interior (which went from included to 1500).

Do I really need quad motors, probably not. I really prefer ocean coast to black though and adventure perks are nice if overpriced (beforehand).

I was already kind of thinking of canceling since I got a Model Y and kept my truck around for towing, and really enjoy the Y and wasn't sure if I wanted the hassle and price of changing to the Rivian or not. Now that it's even higher, it's been hard not to just log in and cancel and I will probably do that eventually, but for now updating config to explore/dual and will see how it goes for a bit. Outlook not good though.

Cancelled. Had already secured a “while I wait” Model 3. For less money, I’ll keep the 3 as a daily commuter and get a side truck.

car buyers around the world will be shocked at the price increases across the board coming soon. The car industry has found a new business lucrative model- build to order- and it is not price friendly. If you want ANY luxury vehicle be prepared to pay much much more as this new price structure takes hold across the whole car business.

After sleeping on it, the part that makes me most pissed is no acknowledgement of being a long term reservation holding, no admitting fault that they over promised on price (inflation did not account for this big of a price increase), and no offer to meet us half way. Maybe a smaller increase in price for early reservations, or some no cost options.

Basically they are saying we are jacking up the price by 20% because we have a ton of interest in this vehicle, so we really don't care about you early believers.

I wonder how Rivian's bait and switch will sit with the SEC?

I feel the same...very saddened by Rivian's actions.
