Full price is one thing but 10% interest on a lease is insane especially when Gen 3 could be end of year. I would refuse to lease anything with that rate, especially with excellent credit. It'll be interesting to see how sold out they are when many are looking for the cheap $45k version.
Would you complain about a company giving you 3 optional items for ”free”? One of which you most likely wouldn’t choose on a lease?

Would a lease be more attractive at 3/30k, $4k down, $699/mo?

They are incentivizing those that choose to purchase the vehicle ensuring certain features are on the road in the future… and making those that lease the vehicle pay for it.

Like how u are thinking!

do you have a rivian now
With problems?
I have seen enough data out there to be wary of the reliability. In 2 years, we should have enough data to see if they’ve improved overall.

“Gen 3” Adas not a Gen 3 vehicle because the rest including new heat pump, motors and infotainment chip won’t be changing in six months time.
Most people don’t care for the absolute best adas and gen 2 should by early next year give decent functionality.

I don’t know. Tesla and Rivian are both being sued for misleading ADAS claims.

You don’t think it’s odd to release the R2 with an ADAS that they say is going to be replaced in 6 months? Just seems like a weird plan.

Car as software - just like phones and TV's: "Buy now or wait for the new screen, new wifi, new Siri..."
A situation that's easier to accept when talking about a $1,000 device vs a $60,000 device; nonetheless, it's the way of "Software as... anything"

I generally agree with that. But, Rivian is being a bit odd here.

Have you ever seen Apple release a Gen 1 device with chipset capabilities and at the same time say that it will release a Gen 2 device in 6 months that will be future ready while the Gen 1 device will not? Never happens.

I totally agree that if you only want the latest and greatest of what could be in the next version, you are in the buy now or what bucket. But that’s not the situation here. That and, like you said, this is $60k, not $1-2k.

Timing issue. If the Gen 3 compute and lidar availability date can't change, then what's your only choice? Delay R2 six months for only that reason? So no choice really but to do this.

At least they told us Gen 3 is coming which is surprisingly transparent and honest. There is another car company that would have said nothing up until the second new autonomy hardware was inside the car.

I have to be honest. I'm vacillating by the minute on this one. I was sold on leasing for the reasons I mentioned earlier in this thread- new product, being a beta tester, etc.- but the more I play around with the calculator, the more awful I realize the lease is. I configured a Standard R1S and it was similar, actually better/month on a lease. Kind of a moot point as it's too big for me but reinforces how awful the intro lease structure is. If my order- placed last week, still zero communication of expected delivery- were to come in today, I think I'd finance.

I agree the timing is not lined up, my point was saying Gen 3 R2 is misleading because this is adas only with the rest of the car unchanged.

Kinda goes back to my ops and development annoyances with Rivian. Just get G3 compute done in time! 😊

I thought RAP1 (which to me is more important than Lidar) was being released by end-of-year? It's supposedly up to 6x more powerful.

I think a lot of people will be saying the same thing. Most want to lease nowadays and not deal with out of warranty repairs or outdated hardware.

This car is a direct competitor to the Tesal MY, the leasing will follow that. The top trim will never be cheap to lease. Where you will see them playing with the MF are the lower 2 trims. To be honest get use to these lease prices especially if rates go up as has been floated.

I also will wait for the R2's that have the gen 3 tech chips and Lidar in them. I also do not want to be the guinea pig R2 owners that will have experience problems on the first wave of batches going out right now.
Probably best plan of action. Tesla is still having major issues with their EV’s and they are seasoned!

***Ok, the post above said they are waiting for all the bugs to be worked out first wave of R2, so everyone but (few?) know that Tesla has had many recall after recall on their EV truck the past three years. The latest being the high voltage PCS system that Tesla knew the parts would fail over time and still pushed CT out.

Hope that helps.
