I had mobile service this morning to replace my frunk lid trim, and asked our New Mexico mobile tech about the tonneau covers. (Thanks, Alex!)

Here's what he told me:
  • He expects the retrofits to be at the service centers by the end of the month. (I'm guessing that he meant September, I didn't think to clarify until he'd left)
  • The retrofit is specced to be service-center only, however, he's reviewed the procedure and plans to be able to offer it as mobile (at least for his customers in NM and the Durango area) and expects to be able to start installing the retrofits about a month after the service centers have the kits
  • It does involve replacing the cover, motor, and rails, so any accessories mounted on the bed will have to be removed before service (which is going to be a PITA for me)
We'll see what happens, but it's another data point!

thank you for the update. Will the tonneau still be powered or is this a manual replacement?

Thanks for the update. In line with what I was told by service also. I believe he meant end of August and start replacements end of September. At least that is what I'm hoping anyway.

Good to hear! Mine is still working, but I did recently use it in dusty conditions and to carry a lot of tree branches, so it's starting to make squeaking noises as it retracts, so I'm worried it's going to fail soon.

I should probably finally lube it.

I have a pre-scheduled service center visit for Sept 15. Here's to hoping they also get my tonneau replaced at that time, too.

WTF - really? Don't you tease me, I really need a win in the Rivian column otherwise I am gonna sell this sucker. Come on Rivian!
That is about where I am. Tough having a $75,000 vehicle that we can't use for travel unless we wrap luggage in garbage bags?. I hope the latest info is accurate, but this will be the 3rd time I've been told "next month".

hope it is the case but I would assume they would give people some notice to schedule so if they want September appointments they need to start notification very soon.

I'm in the same boat, I installed tacoma style bed rails all the way around to have tie down points. Not difficult to remove, but a PITA is right.

Kind of hard to believe the new powered tonneau is coming mostly because they can't even get the simple manual tonneau out to owners!
