hallelujah!!! This definitely pushes me towards following through with my R1s preorder purchase....although still hoping AA/CP will come like this giving users more choice....

Don't get too excited. The press release says it will be available to new and existing R1's. I suspect this just means that there will be an xm app that uses the rivian data plan like spotify does, not an ability to use SXM satellites.

I have doubts that the satellite hardware is already built in but unactivated, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

Correct, it’ll likely just be a software update that plays over LTE

That would suck. Why not just stream from the phone then? True satellite is a godsend when driving across the plains states. I got all excited for a moment there.

Exactly right. It's the same as using the app. You're just using your Rivian data plan instead of your wireless carrier plan. I guess with the benefit of using it on a larger screen in the vehicle.

Either way, it’s a net improvement over having to stream it from your phone. Nice to be able to use the big screen for more things.

Integration. you don't have to mess with your phone to change channels, etc. I prefer the integration instead of messing with my phone.

Unless they (SXM) make you add your Rivian app as a separate "radio" on your membership. We don't know that yet.

I think previous posters are right...this will be an app used via the cellular network in the truck.

I currently use the App over BT and it works fine in most instances. My BIG question is the cost for this new service: Is this going to be the $200ish per year that the previous integrations over satellites were, or will it be more aligned with the current App pricing of $75ish per year?

🤔

The major benefit of internet streaming over the satellite connection is the much better sound quality. The satellite connection is not able to provide high enough bit rate that a cellular connection can provide. My previous XM experience has always been just barely adequate sound in the music channels and then almost am quality sound in the news and sports channels whereas it is always crystal clear through the app.
