When can you use Autosteer? I think only on whitelisted roads.

But what about radar cruise control? Is that also restricted to whitelisted roads?

Is there a traditional cruise control option?

Is there a speed limiter option? (set speed limiter to speed limit you can floor it without risking going over set point)
True. Only certain divided highways.

On any road, any speed or seems to me. Use it every day.

I think radar is always used.

Nope.

Interesting, they must be using the seatbelt/airbag sensors. Can the occupant play with the temperature if they are in the car?
In that case, will it let the passenger control the AC/Radio?
Yes, everything works fine as long as you don't lock it. And to be honest, it may still work as long as it detects occupants. I'll check...

OK. So it seems that as long as an occupant is detected, all infotainment and hvac controls are active, even when locked. Just locked myself in the car, and everything worked fine (left my phone in the house and used the key fob out the window).

Is autosteer hands on or off at this point? Is there a hands on lane centering mode or similar? I'm curious as to how it would compare to my AP1 fancy-ass lane centering / Adaptive CC setup.

Hands off for a very short period, 30 sec or so. Then it prompts you to put your hands on the wheel. It's capacitive sensors, so you just have to touch it is all.

I think the idea is the occupant should have control without someone remotely messing with them using the app.
What if it's a dog? Or someone who's asleep (like my teenager)?

Capacitive is so much better! I drove an ID.4 with capacitive tough and it was far nicer than having to apply steering input on the Model Y. I hope in the future they can extend the hands free time.

Can it come to a complete stop and then start again once traffic moves? This is my most important use case here in LA.

So it's effectively hands on like the Tesla, just with a different attention confirmation mechanism.

Thats ... fine ... for now.

I haven't had a chance to test. The Kitsap Penninsula isn't known for its traffic...

The manual says it will up to 30 seconds, longer than that you have to restart it by using the accelerator.

Dear Kyle,

Thank you for generously soliciting our input. You look like a fellow sasquatch and so seating comfort and visibility is probably important to you as well so I would very much appreciate you covering any or all of the following:
  1. How much adjustment (up/down and telescoping) the steering wheel offers.
  2. Can you get your knees behind the steering wheel while driving (please let us know your height and inseam)?
  3. Can you adjust the seat to the point where your visibility isn't compromised by seeing too much of the top of the windshield/sun visor area in your field of view?
  4. With the seat positioned all the way to its most rearward position, can you sit comfortably behind yourself?
  5. How much headroom do you have in the rear seat?
  6. How much of the hood do you see in your field of view that impacts your visibility? A comparison to a Model Y or 3 where the hood curves down and is minimally visible from the drivers perspective would be very helpful.
  7. How much force does it take to lift and close the tailgate?
  8. If your tester has the Ocean Coast interior:
    1. Is there glare from the light interior?
    2. Is there dye transfer?
    3. How does the bleached wood look in person? (high quality/fake?)
  9. Any rattles or squeaks during your test drives?
  10. Does the R1T have park assist where it will take control of the steering wheel and maneuver the car and you control the acceleration/braking?
  11. If you have the software update that includes the birds eye view, can you assess the quality of the video feed from the cameras? A comparison to a Model Y/3 would be helpful.
  12. Can you describe the impact to handling/drive feel when you are in conserve mode vs. general purpose or sport mode?
  13. Can you do a range test in conserve mode/general purpose mode/sport mode in similar weather, distance, and speed?
  14. How comfortable would you rate the seating position of the gear guard tunnel door especially from the perspective of a taller person?
  15. 0-60 in conserve mode
Thank you in advance for covering any or all of these and enjoy your time with an R1T!

So this is kind of a weird one. I did a mountain canyon road route in my MINI for kicks. Wound up being 95 miles total starting near Golden, CO (around 5.5k ft) and going up to 10k ft to Echo Lake on Squaw Pass. To get to the lake I got down to 50% SoC, but when I got back to Golden I *still* had 50% SoC. So it's not so much that you gain energy under regen in the mountains...you can, just not much...it's that you don't really use anything overall coming back down. My average consumption going up is usually 2-2.5 mi/kWh with a spirited drive and then something 5+ mi/kWh coming back down.
If you regen at 50kw for 6 mins you get back roughly 5kwh (leaving aside the losses in AC-DC conversion). That's a significant amount of energy. On my old S75D that would be about 7.5%.

And yes I've experienced that in a mountainous area nearby, recovering over 20 miles of range when going down the mountain.

You can have a look at an example of this in the following video from Tesla Bjorn where he recovered several kwh and almost 6% of his battery,

Looking forward to the charging curve analysis! That is probably the biggest concern with for me on this vehicle.
