I do have a 22' 4500lb travel trailer (Jayco 22bhm) that could be borrowed for a highway consumption test going from Fruita into Utah a little ways and back. It would provide a good example of towing a typical boxy travel trailer.
This vs. an Airstream. People on the Tesla forums report massive differences in towing consumption with a Model X towing a boxy trailer vs something much more aerodynamic. Also note that teardrops generally perform very poorly aerodynamically, contrary to popular belief. We've got a 1968 Airstream and I need to know just how pissed my wife will be after we get our R1S and dump the gas hog...

@OutofSpecKyle also, if you can confirm w them that they have that 800v charging switch. I know CarAndDriver and MotorTrend have said that it can with a software update, but it's not clear to us if that was a miscommunication about their charging network. This is literally the mystery.

Towing a small camper vs a large trailer would be sweet too.

Honestly, just super excited for your review!
For the 800V charging - I think this one maybe can be answered by what Kyle can pull at one of the Chargepoint CPE250 stations that are dotting CO and UT now. These are usually rated for 125kW, but I think the only car he's seen pull close to this is the IONIQ 5 - they seem to be amperage limited and the 125kW only applies if you're at ~900V. Since he's been starting all of his CO range tests at one, we might get a quick report

The phone app will let you enable climate remotely. I think, for now, you'd have to walk away, let it lock, then flip it back on with the app. I'm sure they'll streamline this use case eventually.
Thanks, so you can confirm we can get the AC running while parked and locked. Important for those times you need to run into a store with the pups in the car.

They don't have it enabled in the software yet. So it would have to be from communication with Rivian. I just trust @OutofSpecKyle a lot more than the two car magazines to get clarification more than the two car mags. I have a feeling that they miscommunicated with Rivian.

I assume if it were warm, it would offer to cool down. There's no set point or anything though. I wonder if it bases that on driver profile... ?

If there is someone in the vehicle, I get an occupant detected message and the app won't let me condition.

Thanks, looks like a good start at least.

Hoping to see something like the Tesla dog mode.

Doesn't seem to be driver specific, but it will offer to cool as well.

Interesting, they must be using the seatbelt/airbag sensors. Can the occupant play with the temperature if they are in the car?

Not a deal breaker, my Jeep cannot do this so we just don not bring the pups if we know we need to go inside somewhere.

In that case, will it let the passenger control the AC/Radio?

In my Tesla, as soon as the driver gets out AC and Radio immediately shut off leaving them board and cold when I go into the store. There is a way you can keep the AC going, but nothing can be done about the radio.

Yeah. I'm a little worried that might mean a dog getting into the front will turn off the remote climate control. Maybe it's key based? Further testing clearly required...

That seems like a bad choice. When an occupant is in the vehicle would definitely be a time you'd want to maintain cabin temperature...

I think the idea is the occupant should have control without someone remotely messing with them using the app.

pulling the average efficiency over like 10 miles would be great though!
Exactly! Drive a 10 mile loop counterclockwise and clockwise and report the vehicles onboard consumption figures and elevation change. Maybe range test was the wrong word... more an efficiency in off road conditions. We can estimate range from there.

When can you use Autosteer? I think only on whitelisted roads.

But what about radar cruise control? Is that also restricted to whitelisted roads?

Is there a traditional cruise control option?

Is there a speed limiter option? (set speed limiter to speed limit you can floor it without risking going over set point)
