While I love the Rivian experience I came to the coclusion this was not the vehicle for me at this time. I did give it a solid year. As my first pickup truck I found it very useful but cumbersome to maneuver in urban streets and parking lots as I was used to a small sedan (Tesla 3) prior to the R1T and every time I pulled it into the garage it was an accident waiting to happen as it barely fit. It drove nicely and the performance was amazing but 90% of the time I was the only occupant so I did not need the space. I did like the fact I could go off road during a zombie apocalypse but so far no zombies so I stayed on the pavement. When I had my 3 I only drove local so charging issues was not a consideration, but now I will be taking some road trips and I do not want to worry about finding a charge station or non functioning chargers. So I want back to an ICE vehicle and it also helped that the trade in value was higher than my net cost as I had early pricing less fed and state incentives. I’m thinking in 2 years I’ll be looking at the smaller Rivian and the charging infrastructure will be much improved, we’ll see!

I must be crazy because before I got my R1T last week, I actually would rent EV’s for my road trips instead of having to driving my ICE. Everyone has their preferences but the fear of long distance driving with EV’s is incredibly overblown.

R1S is a lot more maneuverable in tight spots. I'd push people towards one of them if they aren't sure they need a pickup.

I traded it for a Lexus IS 500 special edition. This is the last of the V8’s in a small sedan and only 150 produced for North America in this configuration so I’m thinking it will hold its value short term as there are still a lot of ICE gear heads out there that will not consider an EV. In the year and a half I owned the R1T I only put 6K miles on it and expect the same for the Lexus. Plus as an old gear head I still love the sound of a sweet V8!

I share OPs sentiment of urban maneuvering. I love my T but I constantly bug the wife to let me lease a small EV for my daily. I'd love to have a RWD model 3 for the 90% of days a year without snow covered road commuting. But I would keep the T for truck stuff and trips

I think charging is improving.

Now this "I traded my Rivian" post I can understand. If you don't need the truck for truck things it's a lot of wasted space. I'm the opposite, I keep getting rid of trucks because I want to drive something smaller then kick myself when I need to do something you need a truck for.

Same, I just did my yearly Christmas trip of 1500miles one way and there were a couple more charging station options on my route, however I still ran into EA stations where not all chargers were available(broken and derated) and all other chargers in use. I'm sorry but EA most places having 4 chargers just isn't enough, even if they were all working. We can't get Tesla access fast enough, especially if we can use v2s as well as v3s.

Ok. So you don’t like a pickup. But then complain about charging so you want an ICE. Seems Like a troll post.

am i the only one that feels like the R1T drives smaller than it is? if that makes sense to any one. I went from a grand cherokee overland eco-diesel to the R1T. the T is roughly 17" longer than the GC but i feel like it drives and maneuvers the same. I live in Miami and also find the T to maneuver easily in parking garages and tight parking lots, i can only imagine how good the R1S must maneuver, though i have heard some say that it doesnt drive as well as the T.
