I've been researching Airstreams and tow vehicles and have become pretty hung up with payload numbers. If 1,100 lbs payload is what we have to play with, then you have 300 lbs remaining for people and stuff. That's me and my wife but my 3 kids and anything we want to carry in the copious storage of the truck have to stay home. I'm finding the huge tow ratings are not achievable when you take in to account the payload capacity printed on the door jamb... What am I missing? My guess is you'll be well within the limits with a 27ft Airstream. Those run in the ~7700lb range with tongue weights around 750-800lbs. Since payload is 11,000lbs, it would be reasonable to have a tongue weight limit around 1,100lbs, otherwise one would have to tow a poorly balanced load.
