I think it is more accurate to say that you can't drive while charging. If you are plugged in, the car is not going to let you put it into gear.
The other way around .... charge while driving. That would be climbing onto the hood while you are driving down the highway (autopilot?) and try to open the charge port. The car will also most likely refuse to comply. But I really hope that Rivian at least offers a fun easteregg on the display to reward your fast-and-the-furious level of effort.

I can just see it now; F250 towing a 5th wheel towing a Rivian towing a travel trailer. See if any of your camping buddies are up for that.

The drive motors on the trailer are a good idea but wouldn't it be easier and cheaper overall if a trailer's battery could be used by the EV? Obviously there would need to be a standard and a charging port in the rear but it seems like a good way to increase the overall range. It would be good for more than campers.

The power from a trailer 12v battery would give Rivian about 1 foot of extra range before it was depleted.

I meant a whole new system. Not for something that is available today. It could be included on any trailer. The Airstream mentioned above has a battery and motors. It seems like you could save weight by not having the extra motors but being able to use the trailer's battery as an extra battery. That is why I said a new standard would need to be developed.
