Just got delivery late Thursday. I thought I was excited. My wife is smitten - this is a very good thing.

While I wait to get 60A circuit installed for Rivian charger, I'm using the included charging cable on 120v/20A. I plugged it into an outlet on a circuit that should have had practically no other draw on it. The truck charged for a bit and after entering/exiting truck (not sure if coincidence or possible cause), the charger started pulsing red. Tried re-plugging everything and couldn't get charge to start again. I might have been able to adjust the amps but that's only available for me when charging is occurring. AFAIK, circuit is correctly wired and delivers 120v to other devices.

I plugged into a dedicated circuit (washing machine's with washer unplugged) and charging started again. That being said, SUPER slow. ~1.2 miles/hour - 2kW according to app. Manual says 120v/12A=1.3kW (how slow would THAT be?). I expected ~6 miles/hour and thought I'd read that's a reasonable expectation

I feel like I've read everything I can but also feel like this is an EV rookie mistake I'm making.

Is this anyone else's experience or am I missing something?

Hey Nermal, it is expected. 120V x 20A = 2400W x 0.8 which is 1.92kW/hr so it is accurate. It's also a beefy truck so you can't compare the miles/hr you'll get on a 120V outlet to other EVs which are more efficient.

Huge thanks. Can't wait for that circuit:)

I use wheel stops to get me right up to within an inch of the wall.

I went low-tech and used a strip of brightly colored duct tape. I do this for all my cars and it allows me to know exactly when to stop. my old car only showed the cam when in reverse but Rivian is nice as I can switch to rear cam as I drive in and then I know when to stop.

For those that have been off road on what you might consider a really dry dusty road, the type that fills the bed with lots of dust, I'm curious to know if you're getting dust inside the cab? Maybe from opening/closing the doors or other reasons? Do you see dust filling the door cavities?

Reason I ask, my 2019 Ram pulls in more dust in the cab than any truck I've ever owned, and I HATE that part about it.
I had a chance to hit some backroads and tried out rally and drift modes (very fun btw). There was no issue with dust in the cab.

Here is a picture of the rear back bottom of the driver's side rear door. You can clearly see where dust is present vs. the interior:

Also in case you are curious here is a picture of how dusty the bed got with the tonneau closed:

I’ve seen that the cargo crossbars fit in the front trunk…but do they fit under the false floor? ?
Nope and though you can get them in above the false floor, they don't fit all that well there.

There’s not a seal around the tailgate itself, correct?
Seems like that’d be where the dust would get in.

darn, I was hoping to keep them there when not in use.

Correct, there isn't a seal around the tailgate other than a rubber strip along the back of the tonneau cover where it sits against the tailgate.

First off, thanks for EVERYONE chiming in and answering all of these questions for the community. So excited!!!

I'm waffling on the type of charging to setup in my garage. One option, install a NEMA 14-50 plug on a 50 amp circuit breaker and start out by using the Rivian Portable Charger (I don't drive much, so that should be more than enough for my needs). The other option is the Rivian Wall Charger hard-wired on a 60 amp circuit breaker.

A couple of questions for owners:
1) what are you using now and how's it working? Any challenges?
2) if you're using the Rivian Portable Charger with the NEMA 14-50 plug - are you having any issues with the GFIC circuit breaker tripping (one concern I have)?
3) regardless of your current charging method, can you specify the rate of charge through the app?

Many thanks!!

Just plugging into the 14-50 is fine. The wall charger/connector may get you some bells and whistles like connecting to the connector via Wi-Fi but for your needs I think you’ll be fine just using the 240v. It worked for me and a Tesla for many years.
