Sad to see an OG from Rivian Forums ride off—hopefully just for a pit stop! I’m in a similar boat, pondering life out of warranty as I creep up on 55,000 miles. Here’s to smooth roads and epic adventures ahead, wherever they take you.

Cheers,
Mark

Ive got plenty of reasons to seek therapy, not sure hating myself is one of them

Maybe I can actually afford some now that I don't need to pay Rivian for repairs.
I might have a Telehealth opening available for you :)...

In all seriousness, very bummed to hear you sold, but wanted to thank you for all your contributions. Back in the summer of 2022 when I was just so antsy to get my truck I would browse these forums and I remember reading about some of your road trips. I excitedly told my wife about one of your posts. I think you were camping and working remotely via laptop and I showed the post to my wife saying, "This guy is living the life. I cannot wait to get my truck!"

I am also still happily using the 12V Iceco cooler/refrigerator you were the first to review in my frunk. Perfect fit and works adequately for my purposes even in the Phoenix heat.

I still think you should have wrapped your truck in a burnt orange color :)

I love that you tested the limits on the truck's capabilities and were far more adventurous than many of us.

I do hear you on service. I've had a mixed bag myself - mostly good in Phoenix but pretty awful (as expected) in Kona. The latter, however, does have me reconsidering getting an R2 in Kona - unless service does improve there which I am apparently helping develop. But that's a story for another thread.

I'm also surprised you sold your Ioniq 5. That seems like a good vehicle at its price point.

Anyways, thanks again. Hope you stick around and hope to hear you're a Rivian owner again soon.

Maybe you can lease a Fiat EV for dirt cheap in the meantime?

Cheers to you! 🍻

Sorry that you have had a bad experience with service. I live in Portland and have had nothing but great experiences with the Portland service center. Easy to schedule and they always go the extra mile to make things right. They always provide a loaner or a rental at their expense. Don't expect that with any other car maker. I have had a number of small things repaired but I'm fully aware that this is a completely new truck that no one else has ever built. The Portland service center is way better than the Dodge dealership that used to service my old Ram pickup. Hope that you come back into the group soon.

I don't have any recent criticism with the folks in Portland or Troutdale Rivian Service centers. The broken back window on Halloween 2023 while at their SC wasn't great but they made it right. Generally they have mostly done a good job at least in my recent experiences.

Early vehicles have a 5-year/60,000 mile warranty (although @jjswan33 I think exceeded the warranty by mileage):
My bad, I was thinking of the 36month/36K mile 12V battery warranty on all Rivian vehicles.
But, yeah it's easy to mile out of warranty on older R1's as they started deliveries in Oct 2021 so if you put 20K miles/year on your vehicle the B to B warranty could be close to up in Dec 2024.

Honestly not any major issues right now. I did notice a bad strut in the rear while rotating the tires, buyer is aware of the issue. Also have had a safety recall on the books forever. You are probably aware but yes been a number of other suspension issues over the years. 7 air shocks replaced, 2 compressors, rear subframe, rear light bar twice and a whole host of other smaller issues.

My biggest issue with service is just how it operates. There is no accountability and if you don't press the issue then things just get lost. For example recently I have been getting 'Service Suspension Soon' errors and have an open recall. Every couple of weeks I get a call from Rivian, I explain the issues and they tell me they understand and need to reach out to the service center. Every time they promise to follow up next day and they never do.
I agree - the way the service dept operates.
I'm at 40K in 20 months, the suspension started making metal clicking sound when stop & go and turning. I was told they fixed and I picked it up yesterday but the same symptom exists. The suspension is only covered until 60K. Your post is making me to consider selling mine as well... I love the car ! but the uncertainty of how reliable the suspension will be scares me a bit.

Awesome photos you shared - Good luck !

Well after 65k miles and over 2.5 years of ownership I sold my launch edition R1T today. Sad to see it go and it's been an adventure.

Why I decided to sell:

- Service
- Service
- Service
- Cost of ownership of an out of warranty vehicle

This isn't a thread to complain about service, some times they got it right but it's not a consistent experience and not a good recipe with an aging vehicle.

Still a stock owner, will consider a Rivian again (still have an R2 reservation) but for now this is good bye.

Photos of some highlights.

Excited for R2 and no more air suspension. I bet it’s 60% of the issues with Rivian service backlog…the other is 40% issues that could be caught in production.

To replace the camper portion of my Rivian I am working on a van build.

I am debating buying a cheap ($<10k) EV for local errands and what not but I'll wait until after the holidays.

Longer term I am undecided.

Get a leased Chevy Equinox on Leasehackr for $200/mo for 24 months. Good car, buys you some time. Get Conquest, Costco, etc.

I feel like I could easily be in this boat when the warranty is done - hopefully my R2 reservation will be ready first 🤞

Totally agree with OP about the lack of accountability in the service area of the business. That's why I will get rid of my truck soon and probably never be back to Rivian. That, plus the continual suspension issues that remain unaddressed.

Air suspension was ambitious for a first vehicle, and that's come back to bite Rivian in the butt somewhat. No matter how bad the air suspension system may be, at least the off the shelf components they used from Monroe, etc.. had a track record. That being said, by far the most off the wall, problematic, poor decision they made was the idiotic dual 12V battery system where each battery powered only one side of the vehicle. Who does that? Answer.. no one ever!
