Price war is going to hurt Rivian if they don’t get their supply chain and manufacturing dialed in.

Tesla knows Rivian is a threat and I bet Elon is going to drop MX base prices significantly to ~ $80s. This in itself will hurt RIVN.

If I didn’t land an early Bronco reservation (4dr first edition) I would’ve put an early R1S order in. Fast forward to last week I test drove an R1S and loved it- put a deposit down on the spot.

As a new enthusiast I’m not going to jump on the used market, pricing are too high, especially with current interest rates. If MX prices go down It might make me reconsider my deposit and let RIVN work out the new car bugs.

Model X is a minivan. No one wants a $80,000 minivan when they can get a real off-road SUV for that price.

It’s a thread with one’s opinion. I’m just as excited as the next reservation holder but also being realistic.

I want RIVN to kick ass and take the Tesla hype away.

Rome wasn't built in a day, patience is the key so people can enjoy the vehicles, go adventure and only time will tell.

I am one of the pre orders. I Can't Can't wait to get mine and you won't see me flipping it. I am guessing I am not at all alone.

Dude, flipper has flippers. Oink Oink [actual sound in the 63 show was a bird].
I expect a nifty flipper gif from you Mr. Dogman! Still reeling from the Hindenburg gif on the 21" Michelin post. The irony ...

Cheers
That was harder to find than I expected it to be. Apparently any dolphin is a “flipper” :giggle:

You definitely are NOT alone. I think there are a lot of us who waited a long time to get the vehicle we wanted and we have no intention of flipping for a profit.

On the other hand, if the in-house Enduro motors do well in the dual motor configs and Rivian then releases a quad Enduro as their new flagship, then I suspect there will be some who aren’t flipping but are selling/trading to upgrade.

I doubt this is true.

Instead I think a lot of buyers like off-roading capabilities even if they're rarely going to take it off-road. The off-roading capabilities is one of many reasons why I traded in my Tesla Model 3P on a Rivian R1T.

I wanted an adventure vehicle that could go almost everywhere.

The same could be said of most buyers when it comes to road-tripping. People have an insistence on that capability even to the point of choosing a vehicle because of it despite rarely actually doing it.

This is why Tesla Supercharging capability could be such a win for Rivian. It's not that owners would actually do it often, but its because they could.

Sure will, hopefully they can work that out soon like Ford did.

I am curious to see what happens when all the current pre-price hike preorders are delivered. The number of people taking delivery, taking the $7500 and selling for $20k more than they paid and pocketing $~$20-30k) has to be killing Rivian's future order banks. How can Rivian keep the order books full if the "flipper/used" market is stuffed with R1S? My point is.. if someone wanted an R1S today (and didn't already have an order)... they would simply go buy a "used" one for $90-$98k and park it in their driveway Why wait? Rivian lost that sale. There is not much reason for someone to get on the wait list today because the "used" market has tons of supply without the wait. To make things even more challanging... I expect the "used" market prices will continue down a bit. So if in six months you can buy a "used" R1S for $85k (that seller is still making good $$$), why would I sign up to buy from Rivian at $95k? Is Rivian going to have a very difficult time selling a new $95k R1S? Maybe the lower spec/priced models help them get out of this mess?

My local Fiat/Dodge dealer has basically turned into a used Rivian dealer with at times 6-7 R1S and another 5 R1Ts sitting on their lot... and they last about 2 days. We stopped by to test drive one (closer than the SC) and they basically have a Rivian sales specialist that knew all the ins and outs of the car (seriously felt like he has worked over at the SC before coming to this dealer).
Can’t speak for other markets but checking auto trader here in Miami, FL there’s only 3 R1S for sale and they’re marked up 95k+.
You can reserve a vehicle for much less than that these days with Rivian directly. Sure if someone doesn’t want to wait they will pay it but 3 vehicles isn’t a lot. And I’m pretty sure most people who get these cars want to keep it. They’ve waited this long why sell it now?
