How many are ordering the tent for the R1T? Can't make up my mind since really good tent isn't that expensive.

We are ordering it for several reasons but one is the ease of use while traveling. If you are on the way somewhere It would only take minutes to set up and you can stay free in some parking lots. A standalone nice tent would not be nearly as comfortable in that situation. It would also take up much less room at a campsite if you are somewhere with limited space for a campsite. If you are looking at a retro fitted tent for on the truck for the difference in price I think one custom designed for the truck would outweigh any savings. Of course this all just my opinion.

Sure actually a good point and I would assume rain damp ground wouldn't be an issue as well. Or for that matter no site prep to set up the tent...

We also did the Kitchen add on. My wife thinks it is really cool and made her more excited to order the truck. I am not sure it is worth 5 grand but it is a cool feature and will make camping and packing up simple.

I like the idea of the tent (as well as the kitchen) but I just wouldn't be able to use either of them enough to justify the price.

If you go camping a lot, I think they're great features and may make sense.

If you're like me and it'd be used maybe a couple times a year, then it's a harder sell. Based on the specs, I think I could just use a sleeping bag and lay in the bed with the tailgate down.

Same boat here. Those two options are awesome, but pricey. With the amount I camp, I could buy a high quality portable induction burner and just plug it in to one of the outlets as the poor mans camp kitchen. If I car camped every other weekend I would definitely get both. As it is, even when I do camp, I often like to do so at places where my car is a bit away from where I want to sleep anyway. If you camp camp at official camp sites where you have a cleared plot to park and set up your tent, both options are awesome. Some places I like to go though you park the car maybe 50-100 feet from a lake / river. I'd rather set up camp right by the scenery than on the road.

I'm debating.. I know I'll go RTT. Setup/tear down and comfort are big drivers. I'm just not sure if I'll go with the one they offer (more expensive, but comes with a warranty) or a SmittyBilt Gen 2 (cheaper and well made, but only a 1 year warranty).

Really, the only two dings on RTT's from where I sit (and how we intend to use them) is price and mounting it. If you are like @Sgt Beavis and have a kickass setup at home with pulley's and such, the issue of mounting is not an issue. But, I don't have such a setup, so it is a bit of a concern for me.

Silly me I've owned two tesla over the last 8 year and this will be the first vehicle with a standard plug. Check out uline.com for an induction burner, I own bakery and have two and they are light work great and very portable. I m going to def snang one for my truck.

An extra set of hands is all you need. ?

even my huge RTT only weighs 150lbs. Two guys could easily get mounted.

Not sure if there’s an advantage to ordering the RTT with the truck. Other than the Rivian name printed on it, I don’t think there’s anything different or special about it vs. the same model bought elsewhere. Not planning on one myself as it doesn’t fit my needs. But the wife and I are undecided about the camp kitchens. It looks amazing, but not sure just how much we’d actually use it. Our camping routine is pretty set and I’ve been happily cooking over the camp fire for 35+ years. Now a couple years ago we had an open fire ban due to all the wildfires and drought. I would have really liked to have the camp kitchen then…. Which is why we are considering it now.

The main difference is that adventure gear is warranted by Rivian. I believe it is 5 years.

I’m strongly considering a RTT, but much prefer the look and function of a hard top. I hadn’t thought about the warranty aspect until these comments.

My ideal tent would sleep 4 (2 adults, 2 kids, and maybe a dog), open and take down quickly, fit over the bed and not require mounting split over the R1T’s roof, have a driver’s side entrance to avoid encroaching on the camp kitchen, and be able to mount something on top (bike, kayak, paddle board, etc). This makes our family sound much more adventurous/active than we really are, but it would be nice to have the options.

Obviously, nothing I’ve found meets all those preferences, but there are a few that at least meet the size requirements and are ultimately pretty close to the Yakima model available with Rivian.

Roofnest Condor (sleeps 2, opens on the wrong side unless mounted backwards over the bed, may be a little long, can’t mount anything on top)… https://roofnest.com/product/condor/

iKamper Skycamp Mini (basically the same issues as above)…
https://www.ikamper.com/products/skycamp-mini/

wish I could combine one of the two above with this one below and then somehow double the size. I think another name for what I’m looking for might be ā€œHotel Room.ā€

Bush Company Black Max (still only sleeps 2, doesn’t fit over the bed, but is incredibly strong and I could stand on top of it if I wanted to)…

Anyone else of a similar mindset?

I have another or year or so while I await my non-LE preorder R1T, so have time to daydream.
