I haven't heard any updates or discussions about the Treehouse (roof top camping tent) since the original buzz.

Has there been any updates on if this is going to come to fruition along side the launch of the R2?

Assuming this is a ~$2k - $3k upgrade, is anybody else interested in adding this on... especially since the lay-flat seats are out?

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.
It’s slated to be released at the same time as the R1T camp kitchen.
Didn’t the camp kitchen finally come out? I thought it went in the back instead of the gear tunnel. Did I dream that?

They did release a camp kitchen.

It went from the amazing ooh-ahh demo product to a $1,400 induction cooktop with some built-in storage.

I had mostly forgotten about it too until you reminded me.

You didn’t imagine it. $6k for the original concept is a non-starter for enough people that Rivian polled its employees how they feel about it. That is what I heard. And majority of people preferred keeping the storage capacity of the tunnel, rather than an expensive camp kitchen that isn’t used often. Plus, the folding induction top meant it would be universal across all current and future models.

Entirely different product.

The original camp kitchen was actually only $5000, and it included more than $1000 worth of Snow Peak cookware. It also included the gear tunnel slide, which was $1500 by itself.

All in all, comparable in price to the third-party options we now currently have four years later, but the Rivian version was way better than any of the current options IMO for many reasons. But since this thread is about the tent, I won't get started on those.

The R2 tent was really nice - I got to see it about two years ago when they were showing off the R2 at the Rivian space near me. But to me it seemed to be more of a concept feature to demonstrate what is possible, and to help target the R2 to a certain demographic. Note the tent was never shown with a rain fly, which would have been a critical component if it ever became a product.

A key feature was the power available through the crossbars so you had power in the tent (there's a patent for this too). That's cool, but I'm almost positive that feature won't make it to production because I think the cost of putting it on all the R2 would greatly outweigh any revenue they get from tent sales.

Likely they've learned from their partnerships with Yakima and iKamper that it makes more sense to let their partner build and sell the tents. Maybe we'll see an iKamper version of that R2 prototype tent.

Makes perfect sense. Rivian can’t develop everything, but inspiring their partners to do so pushes innovation and creates competition.

The Rivian Kitchen was $5,000 for early pre-orders (we had it selected in our configuration) and then was raised to $6,000. Our Gear Tunnel Sled and Kitchen works great and folks can use any induction friendly cookware they want. We've installed it in every model year R1T (with all of the tonneau cover variations) so far and it fits like a glove!
