The only thing I find 'miles/hr charge time' useful for is when answering the oft asked question "how long does it take to charge". That works because most people know their daily commute distance and it's easy to do that simple math in their head to calculate how long it will take to charge each night.

I think you will find that any quoted miles per hour rates are based on the EPA rated consumption i.e. 135000/315 = 429 Wh/mi.
Agreed, when from the manufacturer- but here people are seeing the real-time results via their dashboard based off their recent personal efficiency ratings.

And then the next day is rainy and a strong head wind. How many mi/hr are you charging at?

This is why it is a meaningless number.

I am seeing 9-10kW per the Rivian App during charging setting the dip switch to 40A on the Rivian Wall Charger.

But, I know my "average" (good days + bad days) mi/hr charge rate.. .and that's what I tell people who ask. I used to tell them 20-25 miles/hour on my Bolt when charging at 240v/32amps.

That can't be right?
If it is, the extra $500 for the charger doesn't seem worth it.
Or perhaps the onboard charger is being throttled??

My model 3 gets 8kw from a 50amp 14-50.

I'm getting 8kw from my portable charger on a 14-50 with 50 Amp breaker.

Do the math.... 40amps @ 240v = 9.6kW.
The poster is seeing between 9-10kW rate as supported by the math.

Anyone know if you can buy an additional portable charger?

A few weeks ago, like others on this thread, realized the cost to upgrade my panel and install the wall charger isn't worth it.

However it is going to be a pain to constantly unplug and store the cable every time I go out. So if I could buy an additional unit, I could leave that in the garage and just plug in, similar to the wall mounted charger

That's in line with what I was expecting.
I got concerned that 40 was the max but yes, I do see it is 48 which would be inline with the Tesla Wall charger.
Are you limited to 40 as to why you have it lower?

You can switch views while charging and instead of seeing miles/hr you can view kw/hour input. Which my dip switches set for 48 amps it still displays 10kw. Listen, i am very happy with it. I just wanted to connect with other people and make sure they are seeing what i am.

The truck rocks, hands down the best.

I am in western NY, if someone really wants to see it in action i would be happy to show it off.

The portable charger limits to 32amp because code allows the 14-50 to be used with a 40 amp breaker so as a continuous load it can only pull 32. The benefit of the wall charger is that you can pull 40 or 48 amps depending on your breaker of 50 or 60 amp.

Not available yet, but it's a standard 120/240v J1772 EVSE so plenty available on Amazon, Ebay, etc...

I'm hardwired at 48A with 6 gauge and routinely get 11.7kW to as high as 12.2kW (22.5 to 23.9 miles/hour). Factory dip switches were set for 48A. Cable gets lightly warm after 2 hours at 48A.....
