Rivian Assistant very slow

Just updated to 2026.15.32 and I have to say the assistant is even slower to respond to text messages. Very slow to read them and even slower when you want to reply. Anyone else see this?

There does seem to be a lag. It tells me I have a text about 15 minutes after one comes in.

Rivian Assistant currently does its thinking on a server in the cloud. The latency depends on the quality of your internet connection. It doesn't work at all if the car has no internet connection. This will change when the R2 gets the advanced AI processor. Rivian Assistant will then do much of the processing locally. It will still need the internet for answering general questions, trip planning and navigation, traffic conditions, weather conditions etc.
The Amazon Alexa assistant is fast, because it does does onboard AI on Rivians, but it is very limited in what it soon do. It only understands a limited number of commands.

Extremely disappointing to date. "Call my wife" has 15 sec lag and every time says "please confirm call xx xxx". Has no carryover memory.

Mine has a delay and hallucinates. Yesterday, I got a text from my brother in law talking about how he and his wife are looking at houses. Rivian assistant decided to tell me he was talking about a salmon recipe and how he has never tried halibut. I thought I had just missed a tangent in the conversation so at the next red light I checked my phone and there was nothing there, still talking about what to look for in a house.

I'm going to turn off Rivian Assistant for the foreseeable future. Personally, I just don't need an AI in my truck.

That's weird behavior - when I get a text message in, it's word for word the message. It's supposed to be pulling straight from the text message itself (which is why it asks for permission on your phone to read text messages)

that won’t help us R1S folks. Easier to use Siri for texting - although I do like seeing the texts on the screen.

Yeah, between having to repeat and clarify requests constantly, the general lag in processing requests and providing responses, and having to wait for RAs little "okay I'm listening now" beep before answering anything, I am pretty much at the point where I don't use it. Maybe my expectations are unrealistic, but I would be embarrassed if I were an EV manufacturer providing vehicles with such behind-the-curve tech, especially when there are 3rd party solutions out there that blow it away that they refuse to allow.

The fact that the navigation cannot factor in shortest route vs fastest route, or provide routes avoiding highways, etc is freakin bonkers. Assuming this hasn't been addressed since last trying a week or so ago.

I know, but mine did not. I also can't stand how it will try to "summarize" longer texts. Nuances get completely lost and the message gets misunderstood.

RA is beta at best. Fun for party tricks but pretty useless as an AI tool. Best to set expectations and not get disappointed. Wish I could say wait for an update but from what I can tell the limitation is the architecture, not the software. Gen 3 will solve everything. ;-)

This is a problem. When your economy platform is more advanced than your premium offering you are pushing your customer LTV lower and lower.
