I did some digging into Orland CA City meeting minutes. Looks like the city has a requirement that Rivian could only proceed if the charger was open to all vehicles, including non-Rivian.
Remarkably egalitarian of them. I wonder if Tesla had the same consideration.

Unfortunately unless the states pick up the tab it looks like the NEVI funding is frozen so I wouldn't expect any NEVI sites to start until it makes its way through the courts. Probably at least a year or two.

I thought the courts already put a temporary block on the executive order withholding funding?

Although there's been so many executive orders and court cases kicking off that I could easily be confusing this for a different court order.

Yeah I thought I saw that too but then there are reports of blocking DOE payments and I think NEVI falls under that. There is going to be a lot of effort to block all EV and green related projects. Damn the law or what Congress has passed.

States started getting funds for NEVI starting in 2023, and maybe some in 2022. Then each state gives money to the companies that are installing chargers. Yes, the current admin might block funding going forward (there's been no law passed yet that would stop it, but it's chaos at the federal level right now), but that doesn't stop money already sent to the states from being used.

I'm not sure how much states got (or requested) for those years to build actual charging stations. A lot of the funding was to research and get proposals for charger locations. Not sure if there was much for actually building them until late 2024 and forward, which would mean not a lot of chargers will be built for quite some time.

I have very little hope that with all the other EOs and power grabs that EV funding is going to be anywhere near the top to the list to reinstate.

Wow Pismo was fast, hope the utility can energize soon. Planning on being here in March.

Looks like the judge just clarified that the government still has to pay out these funds.

The process for future NEVI rounds is still on hold while they "review processes". They'll be able to get away with that for a while, but not indefinitely.

I've browsed the NEVI plans for a few states. The quality & quantity of what's been approved varies heavily. Colorado has a ton approved. Utah has a decent number as well.

I can't see any evidence that Wyoming put any out to bid. Their website hasn't been updated in over a year.

Yeah the judge just clarified and warned Elon to release funding. I'm guessing Elon isn't going to comply. So it will go to the courts even more and take that much longer to get the funding released. What a mess.

Some of the latest RAN updates:

A new site is planned in Cabazon, California, with permits filed last November:

Permits for the RAN in Asheville were issued last week

And big thanks to @skyote for getting onsite photos of the RAN currently under construction in Columbus, Texas.
