I am not edumacated on “vegan leather”, but on real leather to get white/light colors there is an extra process to bleach the natural color from the leather. So yes a lighter color interior may in fact cost more to produce.

I am looking for Catalina Cove, dark interior and 20” wheels, but not a fan of the AT tires the wheels come with. I just need A/S tires as I switch to Blizzak snow tires in the winter

R2 is smaller than R1S so the prices should be cheaper than the upgrade costs in R1S. I would imagine they'll mirror Tesla's upgrade costs.

Something on the order of $2k for paint, $2k for wheels, and $1k for interior.

$6,500 seems steep so I hope you’re wrong 😬
i certainly hope iʻm wrong, too! but the smaller car and lower upgrade costs make sense...

Can we just call it pleather? It's fake leather, petroleum based, neither of which are descriptions that sell. Vegan gets the homemade granola makers' attention though.
I wish they just dropped the term "leather" altogether from these alternative materials. Just call it vinyl or plant derived or whatever it is. Anything leather just feels misleading at this point.

For me, I do prefer the vinyl for durability and maintenance. Having had several leather interiors in the past, I personally find leather kind of overrated as much as others might disagree. Harder to take care of and do not age well. I say we can move on from having to call everything leather adjacent at this point, but I doubt it.

That's how I'm interpreting it! Now I'm fighting for my life to see if I'm gonna keep the R1T or just add the R2 to the lineup. Decisions, decisions.
Easy decision now. No decent exterior bright colors. No CC interior. Easy to wait for R2 TriMax, as my R1T gen 1 is still an amazing vehicle.

That's not even on the production roadmap. So plan to wait until 2029 or later ... Probably coming from the GA factory if they ever decide to make it...

Good thing the R1T is such an amazing truck. If nothing appears from the Rivian Adventure Department (RAD) re: R2, then I will be shocked and disappointed. I do expect a TRIMAX at some point, but if not would then aim for an R2 with a better color option/special edition.

Yup. I'm keeping my 2022 R1T LE until it dies. Which at the rate things are going, is going to be another 10 years at least.

I do have the need for a second vehicle though, to replace my Gen3 4Runner, and that's going to be an R2 LE, which is already an order of magnitude better than my 4Runner is. That's good enough for me.

There's always something new coming three years down the road, but if you keep waiting for the next big thing you'll never get anywhere.

It's a matter of when not if IMO. And that when is likely not til 2028 lol. Rivian is still a small company trying to scale like Tesla did. It's basically the exact same story. Rivian will be a mature brand eventually, but they need another 3-5 years same as Tesla needed.

Launch green should be the the "free" color on the launch edition, not a paid option.

100% agree. The tow package and autonomy+ being included is nice, but being given an option to purchase a limited-edition color makes it feel like I'm buying from Porsche. Porsche can pull that sort of stuff cause they are Porsche (I'm biased cause they are my favorite), but it feels kinda icky for Rivian to do that. Here's hoping they change their minds when the configurator drops.

They can make every other color cost money, but make launch Green the default. standard and premium can default to gray.
