R2 Delivery Problems

Yeah, I totally regret not leveraging wiring the funds. I used a Credit Union for the loan because of much improved interest rates (I'm purchasing not leasing) and they generated a check. Therefore, it had to be physically sent ahead of the planned delivery day. In this case, it arrived on Monday for a Tuesday delivery... until it didn't.

Working through that issue now with Rivian.

Can you not take your Credit Union's check to Rivian on the day of pickup? That's what I've done with my three previous Tesla purchases

1) Pay my personal down payment via the app the day of delivery
2) Hand them the check for the remaining balance at the time of pickup

Just trying to get a sense of what's required when it's my time

Back to my original question what is the concern with Rivian having my money ahead of time? Outside the principle of transaction, I see no harm, what am missing?

I think for some people, they feel that they don't want to fork over that much cash sight-unseen, which I totally get. For some people it's scary, for others, not so much. I think it's much more impactful the older you are. Older folks aren't used to this - change is hard!. For younger folks, this is how things have always been, so it feels natural. I'm not calling any of you "old", just generalizing here

Then you have other people who believe that they could be making interest on that money rather than Rivian. For example, say you paid Rivian $65,000 cash, with no loan. If you were to take that same $65,000 and put it in a high-yield interest account at 3.5%, you could be making ~$6 interest a day (before taxes ). So if you expected delivery on the first day of the month and it got pushed a couple times to the last day of the month, you're potentially out ~$187 in interest. Obviously these numbers get a lot smaller if you finance part of your purchase.

Again, for some people, that's considerable, for others, not so much. I respect that - everyone has their own financial situation. For me, it's not a big deal and not worth having to move money around at the last minute, risk impacting my delivery, etc.

They probably need to GET it and CASH it before handing over the asset.. not sure if they can easily verify the funds that confidently.

No. No funds of any kind are accepted at Service Centers or Spaces as I understand it. You will need to wire the funds directly to their account. Regarding the remaining balance, if it is coming from you or from a lender, it needs to also be wired or a check sent directly to a particular location ahead of delivery day. That wasn't made clear to me and I had to scramble to get the lender's check hot-shotted to Rivian's Chicago offices. I did - and paid a hefty overnight fee for it - only to get the delay on the day of.

Maybe because it is a Service Center and not a Space? Not sure but I can tell you from my personal experience over the past week or so, no money in any form would be accepted at time of delivery.

Hey everyone. I've heard several stories about delivery problems and now have one of my own. Delivery was scheduled for Saturday, August 22 but was kicked to Tuesday, August 25 due to paperwork issues. The paperwork was resolved on Monday and I received a call Tuesday morning that there were issues with my VIN but they were minor. When asked, it was "computer based" and wouldn't be resolved with an OTA update. My date was pushed to today, Thursday, August 27. But in no less than an hour from that conversation and rescheduling on Tuesday morning, I received an email that said my delivery date on Thursday was canceled.

The kicker? No new delivery date has been provided and all has been dark from Rivian. No phone call. No email. No reply via text. Zip. I get that there are issues but for as communicative as they've been up to this point, both via actual humans pinging me and the app, the lack of response is frustrating. Just let me know what's going on and what's next, please!

Oh, and by the way, my biggest heartburn is that they now have $66K (my downpayment and the remaining $$$ from my lender)! Anyone else experiencing this pain?!? Any recommended recourse?

I was originally given a Sept 17 date but I had to push it out to Sept 25. They just contacted me today and said the car was arriving sooner and now I am scheduled to pick it up on Sept 2. Hopefully that will hold.

I have called, texted a couple of people that had reached out to me, and sent a couple of emails to those I've worked with and to the "delivery@rivian" that is provided in the cancellation email I received. All of this without any response.

This was my experience in Tempe. They'd be super chatty via text, then cancel and I couldn't get ahold of anyone via email, text, or phone. It was almost like they muted my text conversation until they were ready to reschedule.

I'd definitely get ahold of the manager at the service center. Once I actually tracked the Tempe guy down, I was able to get a firm-ish timeline and a real picture of what the issues were. YMMV if this is the DCFC issue that some people have talked about.

One thing I'd try to push: make sure whatever parts are needed can be overnighted if they're small enough. My wiring harness was sent via UPS Ground. When my R1T needed it replaced, they overnighted it.

Why is anyone paying Rivian ahead of time? I would have not paid until the day of delivery, and I see the vehicle in person. Wire transfer/TCH payments takes minutes

For my R2 in Arizona, they required funds by 3:00 p.m. the day before delivery. Now, I'm sure I could have pushed them, but it wasn't worth the extra hassle. I wasn't expecting a three week delay either.

Well, to be fair. I would have thought that the "AI" Rivian employed on its own site would know about the company's business practices regarding customer purchases. I hope this isn't the same AI they're putting in their vehicles
