Hey everyone. I've heard several stories about delivery problems and now have one of my own. Delivery was scheduled for Saturday, August 22 but was kicked to Tuesday, August 25 due to paperwork issues. The paperwork was resolved on Monday and I received a call Tuesday morning that there were issues with my VIN but they were minor. When asked, it was "computer based" and wouldn't be resolved with an OTA update. My date was pushed to today, Thursday, August 27. But in no less than an hour from that conversation and rescheduling on Tuesday morning, I received an email that said my delivery date on Thursday was canceled.

The kicker? No new delivery date has been provided and all has been dark from Rivian. No phone call. No email. No reply via text. Zip. I get that there are issues but for as communicative as they've been up to this point, both via actual humans pinging me and the app, the lack of response is frustrating. Just let me know what's going on and what's next, please!

Oh, and by the way, my biggest heartburn is that they now have $66K (my downpayment and the remaining $$$ from my lender)! Anyone else experiencing this pain?!? Any recommended recourse?

Have you called them? Nothing in your post indicates that you have reached out. If you haven't, get on the phone and be firm but polite.

Wow! - This was pretty much my exact experience. I had a delivery date of July 31. By July 15th - I had every thing completed, my money wired, my lenders check fedex'd, my trade info and my insurance binder. I explained I was leaving the country and thats why I needed to complete everything before I left. I wasn't landing until the night of July 31, then my delivery was scheduled for Monday Aug 3. On July 30th - I was called and told my R2 needed a "part" but that part was on back order. No ETA. I asked several times what is the part - never got an answer. As I understood it, my R2 left the factory on 7/13 and it was at my service center. I asked can we take delivery and I bring it back when the "part" was in stock. Service center said no, we cant let it leave without replacing this part. Then they rescheduled the delivery for two weeks out - like 8/17. Getting pressure from lender about insurance ( why would I insure a vehicle that is not delivered )and Im sure the lender itself was curious why the check wasn't cashed I am guessing.. was a little stressful from timing. Anyway - the "part" finally came in .. and I took delivery on 8/14. Again I asked, what was wrong with it? What was the part? THe person doing the delivery said he wasnt sure, but Rivian is taking every step to ensure the R2 is successful and all eyes are on it. We were getting one of the first 10 in the state .. Knocking on wood .. so far everyting is working as expected ... but I have no idea on what the mysterious "part" actually was.

*Incoming post from a bunch of people defending Rivian* - Be careful! Haha.

This does seem to be the norm here I fully expect delays to happen when I get mine. Seems to just be the way they do business. They try to help, but there are issues with these first cars/logistics they aren't always disclosing (I wouldn't either if I was them). Of course this happens with all manufacturers but that doesn't make it acceptable in my eyes. In my business if I did this I would lose market share. Fortunately for Rivian there are no alternatives to their product so we just have to deal with it (please don't come to tell me the BMW, the Volvo, or whatever station wagons you guys are going to pitch as an alternative. Because they aren't they are all completely different looking vehicles that I personally would never buy).

Haha .. and for me .. I do really really like Rivian.. I have my R1T I had since 2023, love it .. and my wife couldn’t wait for the R2 … shoot I’m even wanting the TMB .. so for sure I’m not slinging mud here .. but I was searching everywhere before wondering if anyone else had the same experience as me ..

So far though, I really dig the R2 .. feels great .. and my wife loves it ..

yeah, shortage of rail cars, engineers to run the train, truck drivers to drive the rigs, including lack of car trailers available...delivery logistics is an ongoing issue. A lot of material moving but not enough people or moving equipment out there to do it. Businesses are trying to run lean to ensure demand and business profitability, which in turn allows them to charge higher rates associated.

I have called, texted a couple of people that had reached out to me, and sent a couple of emails to those I've worked with and to the "delivery@rivian" that is provided in the cancellation email I received. All of this without any response.

Again, I get that this is a major undertaking and there are going to be issues. A simple communication in any of the many ways available would be helpful... and expected.

Quick update: I did just get an email response from a Rep I've worked with at my local Rivian Service Center. He was cordial, apologetic, and informative. There is a stop delivery hold on several R2's and my VIN is caught up in it. No other information but at least I know there is a voice in the darkness providing updates!

Questions still remain about the funds that are in their hands. And I'm going to need to circle back with insurance so that I'm not paying for something I don't own.

While it's disappointing, the bright side is they appear to have caught a production problem, as opposed to sending you a vehicle with a problem.

My delivery was delayed twice, once by a week. I was able to ask my insurance company to pause adding it to my account so I wouldn't be paying for it.
Curious to your concern about them having your funds, do you think they are going to take the money and run and not give you a vehicle?

Why is anyone paying Rivian ahead of time? I would have not paid until the day of delivery, and I see the vehicle in person. Wire transfer/TCH payments takes minutes

Forgive the dumb question: Given all these delivery issues, I wonder if you are leasing, do you have the same money issues? Leasing requires less money upfront than a purchase.
