Just wondered how many of you R2 buyers are going to add the Spare tire? I know modern tires are much better than years ago, but I have not been able to accept this new trend of cars not coming with spare tires. I have not had a car without one, and probably won't buy a new car if a spare is not available.

Part of that for me is that I live pretty remote in the mountains and help would be hours away if the tire could not be made driveable with sealant and a pump.

Nope, I always have a tire plug kit in my vehicle. As long as the puncture is on the tread part of the tire it is a 15 minute fix. If it is a sidewall issue then it is a problem. I carry a Garmin inReach if I am in a remote area

Definitely, if you get a puncture and the repair kit cannot fix it then you are in trouble especially if a little off the beaten track. Well worth the money and thankfully they have space for a proper space saver spare unlike some of the other recent EVs.

Nope, I just carry a puncture repair kit but, in the interest of full disclosure, I don’t do any serious off-roading. When I’m on a road trip my vehicle is fully packed so if I don’t have room for a full-sized spare then I don’t have room for a full-sized flat either.

Yes, planning on getting the spare. I really want to know if it is one that you will have to inflate to use it or if it is just one of those little donut spares. I've been reading it is the inflatable type, so I'll need to get an inflator too. Either way, it is a personal preference to have a real spare. I'm planning on driving on a lot of dirt roads and would feel better to have the spare as opposed to a patch kit and inflator. I had a Tesla for 5 years and only on one occasion did I have a flat. I used my inflator to get the tire up enough to drive to a tire repair shop.

Yes, I'd say at least a quarter of the flat tires I get aren't even pluggable because of the size of the hole.

I plan on getting the spare, and will probably SHARE it with some local friends or others in a group for mostly roadtrips or off road trips when the risk of more than just a puncture is high. It’s quality insurance, but I won’t carry it all the time of course when a flat fix kit might work, or AAA is within a quick 30-60 minute fix.

That said, on the one hand I would purchase it when I config (Hopefully earlier than feared) BUT my only concern would be if the tire isn’t available can the “order” be complete and fulfilled WITHOUT the Spare or would the whole order be delayed..

Trust me, i’ve had this happen before but yes more with small vehicle elements, extra cameras, rear spoiler, carbon lips/mirror housing/etc.. and many not by choice but because they came in a package.. oh well.

So I’ll probably GET IT, but WAIT To order and pick it up.

Nope. I can think of better places to use the $750. I haven't had to change a tire in over 40 years, so tire rot has been an issue. Tires are much better engineered than they were when spares were commonplace.

I don't know what the R2 will come with but my R1S came with a kit in the frunk with a 12v compressor and a can of sealant. You might not have to buy an inflator.

I got 2 flats within the first month of getting my R1. Had to replace one tyre and patch the other one. Got tyre insurance and the spare tyre kit and haven't had a flat since!

Definitely picking up the spare; saw the kit at the Nashville event a week back and it is the deflated tire and full tool kit with jack! Hoping the R2 is already kit’d with the sealer and inflator but if not got that covered as well… Peace of mind as we burn a lot of miles and travel too frequently to rely on a patch repair to solve every flat!
