"Watch our manufacturing lines in continuous motion as the official start of R2 production draws near. We made R2 so easy to build, our plant in Normal, IL is capable of producing 155,000 R2 units annually. With a design this simple and a plant this advanced, R2 is ready to overdeliver on performance and capability at greater scale."

Love it!! Even saw Gary on the silicon board! There was a USA Today article today. No idea who reads that anymore, but seems like pretty wide and constant reach for R2 release.

Okay, so white is a confirmed color then?

(There better be some good colors after this B&W reveal game)

It also said production starting very soon. So feasible by end of first quarter at this point.

...We made R2 so easy to build, our plant in Normal, IL is capable of producing 155,000 R2 units annually....
That's 2,980 R2s a week, 425/day based on 7 day production, and is 141/shift or just under 18 vehicles/hr at full production rate. Rivian won't hit that probably until late 2027 if the demand holds.

So if we take 26 weeks of production and 141 units/shift for 6 days/wk, using the full production work rate, that's just under 22k vehicles. Close to their 20K~25K estimate.

Its supposedly so simple and easy to build, the learning curve and the production ramp up is a piece of cake, right?

Where the rubber meets the road is the QC for the initial builds as well as some of the unknown-unknows, including infant mortality of new parts and subsystems. I am certain that whatever Rivian has learned in R1 and EDV will help. At the same time, though, is a brand new design - however simple it may be - and processes.

Hope Rivian gets this right because they'll only have one shot at this. R2 is a bet the company product.

I did think that it's interesting that their quote for this whole thing didn't include 'quality'. But maybe because that's too subjective in the space?

Wrong, it is literally in the title “Manufacturing for the highest performance, capability and quality”.

With that many cars in productions seems like it shouldn’t take to long for them to complete their reservation especially if it’s a lower conversion rate.

Really depends on how many people plan to go through with it and how many will wait for another drive train and how many will wait for LIDAR. It will be interesting for reservation holders, that is for sure.

I look forward to seeing more "friendly", "inviting" and "goofy" faces on the roads in the future. Too many cars are angry (and ugly) for no reason.
When I see the “angry” wrangler headlights, I think to myself, “there goes another toolbag”

I remember many years ago a study that BMW did that compared their models over the years and who bought them. In effect, every few years the model redesigns tended to shift form "happy face Bimmers to angry face Bimmers" and the demographics of the buyer shifted noticeably depending on the visage.
