Just got R1S Quad Motor 20" AT with the honored original pricing of ~$82k, including the $7,500 tax credit it'll come up to ~$75k for a car that now has a price of $100k and I'm not sure how long is the wait time for the build.

Is it reasonable to assume that the resell value of the car currently is above what I have just paid?

There was a R1T that recently got traded in at the Dodge/Jeep dealer to me, they gave him 68k. So close... for Pre-Purchase pricing.

If it has a desirable exterior color and Ocean Coast interior, you can sell it for $88K within a month, or $85K within a week. IMO.

Not high enough to flip it. Let Rivian sell it to someone else and have them make the money on it
Just to clarify, I'm not planning to flip it.
Only wanted to know where I'm at if I decide in a few months from now to sell it, whether I'm going to lose a good amount of money or not...The intention was never to make a profit of it.

I am curious little different question here...Are these pre-configured for the pre-ordered ones, is it possible to change to DM also? Most of the ones I observed being sold in the market seems Quad motors.

R1S - April 2021 preorder
The wait time is not long now. So the only thing in your favor is pre hike pricing.

If all you care about is breaking even if you don't like it, I think the current resale market could get you even or a couple thousand either way of even. There just really isn't profit in it for more than that, which is why I talked about flipping. It's not worth it financially to flip because the profit would be very little. Rivian would be better off and you wouldn't really gain anything so flipping it is a lose-lose.

Getting out of a vehicle you don't like is a whole different matter.

Yeah, I totally agree, especially considering the 7 days return that just gives you back all the money without the headache. I was more considering my options in case I don't need / can't afford another car a few months down the road and will choose to sell the R1S, whether I'm going to be above/below the price but seems like about even...which means that it depreciates 15% in a month, I guess average value...

I don't think that the federal tax credit would apply, the max purchase price is capped at $80K and then the Rivian only qualifies for $3750

Good point on the 4.5% fee, but the seller only gets the sales price. So, there is a difference between what the seller pockets and what people are paying, then there's additional sales tax in some states for the buyer.

I'd say small profits are possible on preorder pricing - depending on tax rates in one's state, but there's no guarantee.

It applies with a signed binding agreement back in 2022 (need to amend the taxes, you can look for posts about it)
True dat, I unfortunately did not have the binding agreement.
