This is my first month in the R1T and firstt EV ever. My eclipse road trip has been the longest so far. I have to say that out of all the charging networks I tried Tesla and RAN have been the most reliable. Even without the adapter, I downloaded the Tesla app and located superchargers with CSS adapters.

I'm not the original poster, but in the same boat. A2Z has worked great with my F-150 Lightning. Flawless (other than I had to experiment a couple times to get the locking mechanism to work - now that I know how "locked" feels I have no issues).

My Ford-supplied Tesla adapter arrived two weeks ago-ish, but I was order #93 and Ford is filling orders by date/time placed. I was fortunate to order in the first few minutes after the announcement was made. Best part of that is that we just got an R1T as my wife's daily-driver and I'm going to put the Tesla-made adapter in it.

Haven't had a chance to test it yet, but I'm sure it'll work just fine as well.
Awesome great to hear about your A2Z experience and congrats on the new R1T!

I think anyone looking to buy an EV strongly considers how they will fast charge on the road. Getting stranded is about the worst thing a car can do to you. Knowing that Rivian is compatible with Tesla makes that investment decision on par with a Tesla purchase for that aspect of the purchase decision. I'll bet new Rivians come with the adapter. For the rest of us, knowing our investment in a CCS car was not in vain, we will get an adapter delivered eventually. That being said, my A2Z adapter is a couple days away from delivery. I know some people want the official adapter but I look at it that my Rivian charges off non Rivian (or Tesla) hardware all the time. I look at whether the company and hardware I'm dealing with is reputable, be it A2Z, EA, EVGO, Autel, Chargepoint etc. I wasn't willing to wait six months to get an adapter. I'd rather remove a little more stress of driving an EV over an ICE.
Totally understand where you’re coming from. My experience on long road trips with EA/EVgo hasn’t been great, so I’m eager to get the adapter.
I ordered a third party as well. The peace of mind knowing I can use a supercharger was worth the price.

Nice! Unfortunately I don’t see any magic docks anywhere close to where I typically road trip.

Yea for <$200, my $100K vehicle is less likely to get stranded. Seems like easy math no one is going to talk me out of.

Hahaha definitely. I’ve had my share of scares with the shitty mapbox navigation taking me on a “better” route through the Angeles National Forest. Came out with 3% left

3%?? That's nuts. Every trip I've taken so far the truck has been far too conservative. I told it I want to arrive at a charger at 10% and then follow it's charge to X% recommendation and I almost always arrive with more like 20%. Only once I looked at its estimate and thought it was on crack and recomputed myself and charged deeper only to find that the truck would've gotten me there with around 8% which would've been fine. In that case, the wind was bad enough I didn't trust it given the two prior legs were around 1.3 mi/kWh and it was planning that one for more like 1.8 mi/kWh.

Yea if you ever get stuck in Big Bear, PM and I'll lend you 14-50 since there are only a couple of options in a really busy place.
Snow season closed yesterday but we got lost for an hour out of bounds, haha.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! Bear is one of my most frequented spots so I will take you up on that if I’m in a bind.
Went up for Bear yesterday, but seeing that Summit will stay open for a bit!

Yeah not fun. Got out of the forest with 3% and made it to an EA charger with 1%.
Way too close for comfort. I was shitting bricks ?

I was pleasantly surprised by not one but two SCs in a row with Magic dock while on a trip to south Alabama.

On the way home I was routed to an EA station at a Sam’s club with nothing near by, almost R1 unusable layout, non-working units and a Mach E settled in for the long haul on only working charger. I backed tracked 15 minutes to the SC I’d used before and it was awesome with lots of food, shopping and break options.

Maybe SC with Magic Dock worked before the software integration with Rivian but now they work as seamlessly as RAN. Can’t wait for my own adapter but the SC network can work for us without it.

Genuine question here (I love my R1T, love the company, and wish nothing but the best for Rivian, so please don’t hate me for this question haha).

What was the point in announcing supercharger access when adapters are months down the line? Even in the new video posted to their IG, Wassym mentions more access to superchargers but we can’t use them unless we buy a third party adapter.

Was that just a business ploy to attract more customers? Trying to understand the point there.
if is was a ploy it worked on me. I have been on and off the waiting list since Rivian first started accepting deposits years ago. I even got a beautiful print of a R1T sent to me that arrived after I requested my deposit back.
I am now driving a 2024 R1T. Three major factors played into finally doing it. One was the availability of the configuration I wanted. Another was the fact that a family member needed and wanted my old truck. The kicker that pushed me over the edge was this announcement months ago which I took as good evidence that charging infrastructure and availability was truly maturing. I have solar on my roof and a dedicated inverter for charging at home but needed some reassurance that chargers would be available when I travelled.
Perhaps that was silly but I guess their ploy worked on me and I am happy about it!

It has been great. Easy to use and has worked perfectly.

I found out within 30 minutes so was about 400th in queue. They stated April delivery and got mine on the 8th. Some have been quoted up to September that I last saw. They were around 50k on the list.
I am just over 1000 on the Ford order list and haven't gotten mine. Seems like in the first two weeks of April they sent out less than 1000 of them. Very slow rollout.

Because it works no adapter needed at enough Magic Dock equipped Superchargers to make a significant difference and it works as seamlessly as using a Rivian Adventure Network charger. Just plug and charge. In our case we just got back from an MTB race for our kids that would have been hard to get to with our Rivian without a supercharger that bridged a towing gap along the way. Rivian built in nav fearlessly added this one along our route and it was pretty good. Granted the first one we plugged into was defective… at least with EA since they have screens you know which ones are duds before you plug in.

Unless I’m mistaken, magic dock chargers were available to all EVs before Rivian announced the partnership. You just had to initiate charging from the Tesla app
