I’m always either standing in the rain waiting for the door to open or I’m with a group of passengers and we all stand around wondering what’s going on.

I never mentioned that I use the key fob exclusively to lock and unlock the car. It seems like a lot of people use their phone exclusively and not they key fob. Maybe there is a difference in behavior when using the key fob compared with the phone.

Gen2 doesn't come with a keyfob, so that could be why.

Mine did.

Generally I carry both the phone and fob. Sometimes I think the vehicle gets confused as I take the key and leave the phone in the vehicle. Have returned with all four presented as if it never locked. Worrisome.

That's the fun thing about Rivian proximity lock, you get different results every time.

I have an R1S, gen 2. I had to turn proximity locking/unlocking off. Our garage is close to our house. The car would lock and unlock while we were in the house. Drove us crazy.

why not just turn it off at home?

I posted a similar thread here last year(https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/unlocking-the-car-at-home-is-maddening.44027/).

My only solution was to disable "proximity unlocking at home", and carry the FOB(gen1). Even so, it still sometimes takes several seconds between pressing the unlock button on the FOB and the doors actually unlocking. I find that to be completely unacceptable, but I don't have any choice. It's just a badly architected/implemented system. Doors not unlocking ~immediately after pressing the unlock button on a factory provided FOB should be considered a complete failure by any sensible system validation/QC check.

I set home to lock only, but then when I go to open my passenger doors they will not open. I have to open with my phone key. I really if annoying. I hate to say it, but my Teslas do a much better job with proximity locking/unlocking at any location.

My point is the feature should actually work as designed. Disabling at home is a workaround and a poor experience. This feature works in 2018 Model 3 better than my brand new Rivian. Silly.

My Gen2 is set to lock only at home, but it takes forever to unlock using the phone app, watch key, or Siri shortcut. It seems to go into a deep sleep state almost immediately after locking and usually loses connection to the app. The handle indentation press/hold does not do anything. When away from home, the proximity lock/unlock works perfectly, every time, with no hesitation.

My neighbors enjoy watching me outside each morning doing the Rivian unlock fiddling dance cha-cha sequence to get it to open.

Next time it is in the SC for a larger issue, I'll have them check it out. It's not the end of the world, just annoying.

Agreed. My proximity locking rarely works when I’m out and about. For example, coming back to my truck (LE Gen 1 R1T) after getting groceries, and I have to grab my phone out of my pocket in order to have doors unlock. Very frustrating.
