There's an onramp to a freeway in Gig Harbor, Washington that allows about 20 yards for the merging traffic to get up to speed. I waited my turn, then showed off the acceleration of my R1T. I got up to highway speed in that short distance. Man was I proud of myself!
Then I looked in the rear view mirror and saw that the tailgate had fallen open and two small parts were bouncing along the highway. Oops. Chagrin.
Now I double check the tailgate when I close it.
Still, I have to say the acceleration felt really good!

It really is a nice feeling knowing you could smoke 99% (probably less now that there are more R1's and R2's in action) of the other vehicles out there. I generally drive smoothly in an effort to minimize tire wear, but every once in a while when merging, some asshat tries to speed up so you don't get in front of them. I've burned a few of those idiots over the last year.

Please don’t showboat. I saw someone do that in a merge and they were inches from taking out a family. Nothing about our EVs is special - millions on the road can go 0-60 in 3 or 4 seconds. Save a life; other people are on the road.

I will have to admit that I have succumbed the desire to show off on a few occasions. It is a really fulfilling experience to smoke some BMW douchebag (or as Harry would say in Resident Alien, "bag of douche") who thinks he is in a fast car. It must really hurt to get blown away by a pick-up truck of a brand you have never heard of.

The other day I was getting on a 180 degree sweeping on ramp behind a brand new Corolla GR with paper plates. He had it nicely tricked out and I came up on him in the sweeper and when it straightened out he punched it my teenagers chuckled. I paced him on to the freeway with about half throttle and he crossed a few lanes. I didn't have the heart to take him. Just didn't seem right, him likely having just gotten his new pride and joy so i settled in to the slow lane.

Never take someone's pride. It means nothing to you and everything to them. My kids, both sensible drivers, got it too but always enjoy the speed and fun of the Rivian.

Right, if someone drives a BMW they are an automatic douchbag. But if some dude in an R1T decides to floor a merge for fun and have debris fly off their bed and all over the freeway they are kewl. ?

A guy starter a thread here some time ago about flooring it and watching his luggage fly out the back of his R1S onto the freeway. He claimed he had shut the tailgate doors properly, but that sounded suspicious to me.

On the other end of things, driving too slowly in a field runs the risk of a rollover as well.
