The miles of range numbers are literally guesses. That could change from any small tweak to their guess-o-meter heuristic. It's not significant.

A change to how battery management works is obviously significant. We should discuss that and battery percentages or kWh, not estimated miles of range.

It sounds like you're saying the update reduced the usable kWh. That would protect the battery more long-term but obviously reduce total range for someone going 100%-0%. It wouldn't necessarily affect charging speed, that is probably based on more sophisticated systems than just cutting the speed down at 80% or something.
This is the core of what I’m saying - the BMS now reports significantly less capacity than it did prior to the update, which is what’s impacting the guess-o-meter (I don’t think anything about that calc has changed - just the inputs to it). These screenshots should help make very clear the impact of the update on the BMS’s reporting of battery capacity; it should be pretty obvious when the update was installed :).

The communication on this from Rivian was non-existent. Would’ve like have known in advance they were decreasing the usable amount of the battery.
To be fair to them, it may simply be that they have fixed reporting of the capacity - but the lack of communication here does make me suspect that whatever it is is not good. A change this big not being in the release notes is completely unacceptable.

My early G1 QM is sitting 81% and shows 236 miles in all purpose. So that means 291 at 100%. Seems like that has always been my "normal".

I'm seeing a drop on DMP max. 292 to 281 after the last update @70%

What home assistant integration are you using? I want that.....

Just for fun I chatted with a Rivian customer service representative about why the usable portion of my battery appeared to drop with the latest update. They told me I had to schedule a mobile service visit to have them “pull the logs”. Don’t know why they can’t just admit something changed with the update.

They have no idea probably.

According to ElectraFi, BMS might have a brain-fart here and there but capacity it's still the same.

Gen 2 DM Max. Also lost 10 miles rated range. Went from 414 to 403 at 100% (extrapolated from 70% using Electrafi). Electrafi seems to be reporting a lower battery capacity at 140.2kwh, though I don’t remember that number previously.

had the car in for service for some other things and asked them to assess. “Nothing wrong” per their review. Maybe will need more charges to calibrate, but electrafi now saying 137kwh total available and range at 100% (extrapolated) 414–>403–>396mi as of today.

will ctm and report back.

I’ve observed range loss as well. 2023 Quad Large used to report 204 miles of range at 70% and now reports 199 miles at 70% after the update.

Electrafi used to report a usable capacity of about 131 kWh and now reports 126.6 kWh.

I’ve done over 2,000 miles since the update across a wide SOC range with two charges to 100%. I would hope that’s enough for the BMS to calibrate, so it seems like something did reduce the usable capacity.

I am having similar issue, after this update , battery capacity keeps dropping, every day going down as bit , now its sitting at 120kw, but when I charge is up to 70% it regain upto 126, but later sitting 70% charge again gradually drop to 120 in a day or 2. should I be worried?

Gen-1 Quad motor 21 Inch wheels ( 36000km /22300miles ) : 70% range is 332 km (206 miles) and 100% now dropped to 470km (292 miles), now its more aligned to off road tires and wheels;

looks like 10% drop in range and capacity . however on actual driving I am getting 50% of posted range ; not seen that much range lost in last winter , last winter it was 15-20% loss

Here are some recent 70% charging limit ranges. The BMS is all over the place. I’ve charged to 100% to see if it will calibrate but obviously it hasn’t worked.

Update:

Had my mobile service today to investigate the BMS issues. Tech basically stated that the range estimate now fluctuates and takes battery temperature into account. Would’ve been nice to include this information in the .47 update notes…
